Mental Health Support Worker

About the role

ALL4U Support Services is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join our team in Wagga Wagga, NSW.

This is a casual position offering flexible work arrangements supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges and disability-related needs.

As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play an important role in delivering practical, person-centred and recovery-focused support that empowers participants to build independence, achieve their goals and participate meaningfully within their community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct support to individuals with psychosocial disability, mental health conditions and other disability-related needs

• Assist participants with daily living activities, routines, appointments and community participation

• Build strong, respectful and trusting relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries

• Encourage independence rather than doing tasks for participants where they have the capacity to develop their own skills

• Support participants to access appointments, community services and other appropriate resources

• Assist participants to develop practical life skills, coping strategies and confidence within the community

• Work in accordance with individual support plans, risk assessments and behaviour support strategies

• Maintain accurate, professional and timely case notes, incident reports and other required documentation

• Recognise changes in a participant's presentation and communicate concerns appropriately

• Respond calmly and compassionately during challenging or crisis situations while following organisational procedures

• Communicate effectively with management, colleagues and other members of a participant's support network

• Promote participant choice, dignity, privacy, independence and individual rights at all times

What we're looking for

We are looking for people who genuinely connect with our approach to mental health and disability support.

Lived experience of mental health challenges, recovery, caring responsibilities or navigating the mental health/disability system is highly valued. We believe lived experience can bring a unique level of understanding, empathy and connection to support work when combined with strong professional boundaries and person-centred practice.

Successful applicants will ideally demonstrate:

• A genuine passion for supporting people experiencing mental health challenges

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• The ability to build rapport while maintaining professional boundaries

• Reliability, accountability and the ability to work independently

• Sound judgement and the ability to respond appropriately when situations change

• Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm during challenging situations

• Strong documentation, case-note writing and reporting skills

• Flexibility to work across different participants, environments and shift times

• A willingness to learn and participate in ongoing training and professional development

• Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain

• Relevant worker screening and Police Check requirements

• A current driver's licence and access to reliable transport

Qualifications in Mental Health, Community Services, Disability, Social Work or a related field are highly regarded; however, we also recognise the value of relevant experience, transferable skills and lived experience.
