About the role

The Gem Hotel is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Cook to join our kitchen team on a casual basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic hospitality environment at our venue The Gem. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality meals to our guests, contributing to the overall dining experience and reputation of The Gem Hotel. This casual position offers flexibility and the chance to develop your culinary skills within a welcoming and professional team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, cook and present dishes according to established recipes and plating standards

• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of cooking stations and kitchen equipment

• Follow food safety and hygiene protocols consistently

• Manage cooking times to ensure timely delivery of meals during service

• Assist with food preparation, including chopping, marinating and portioning ingredients

• Respond to feedback from the kitchen team and management to improve service quality

• Support the kitchen team in meeting daily meal requirements and special requests

• Monitor stock levels and report any shortages to supervisory staff

• Maintain awareness of menu offerings and special dietary requirements

What we're looking for

• Proven experience working as a Cook in a busy hospitality or restaurant environment

• Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques and cooking methods

• Understanding of food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards

• Ability to work efficiently under pressure during peak service times

• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team

• Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods

• Reliable and punctual with a positive attitude towards work

• Relevant qualifications such as a Hospitality or Culinary certificate would be advantageous

• Knowledge of dietary requirements and allergen awareness is valued
