Project Officer, Centre for Aboriginal Families Wellbeing - Hybrid WFH

VACCHO is committed to supporting our staff through a hybrid work model that balances flexibility with connection.

All new staff complete a three-month training and onboarding period in the office. This ensures they receive the right support, build relationships, and develop a strong understanding of VACCHO’s systems and ways of working.

Following this period, staff may request for working from home to be considered for up to two days per week for full-time staff and scaled back for 0.8 FTE and 0.6 FTE staff. This hybrid model allows us to stay collaborative and connected while also supporting our team to enjoy the benefits of flexibility and work–life balance.

VACCHO is the peak representative for the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victoria.

We have 35 member Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations providing support to over 78,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the state. We lead and support Aboriginal Community Control and the broader health and social services sector to deliver transformative health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal communities in Victoria. We are a centre of expertise, policy advice, training, innovation and leadership in Aboriginal health and wellbeing. And we'd love you to join us!

About the role

The Project Officer will support the delivery of The Centre’s implementation plan, including: 

• Internal coordination of children and family work across VACCHO 
• External engagement with organisations focused on child and family health and wellbeing 
• Aboriginal family engagement, including delivery of key engagement activities for example Aboriginal Children’s Day and other outreach activities 
• Key projects within the Aboriginal Families Wellbeing Portfolio 

The Project Officer will have a strong commitment to the principles of decolonisation, Aboriginal self-determination, and ethical practice to ensure that all work and engagements within these portfolios respects and integrates Aboriginal ways of knowing, being, and is responsive to Community aspirations.

This is a role you can grow into, for the right person with lived experience we are happy to take on a community member new to the industry & train you with the practical skills

Essential skills/experiences 

• Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
• Strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures, values, and community dynamics, with experience working directly with Aboriginal families and communities. 
• Demonstrated experience working in Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations 
• Great cross team collaboration, with internal and external stakeholders including member organisations
• Demonstrated proficiency and experience using Microsoft applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Project Management) combined with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. 
• Proactive in work and solutions focused.
• Ability to balance connection with delivering results.
• Sound understanding of Victorian Aboriginal Community ways of working and living.

Sound understanding of Victorian Cultural Safety.

• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply as your cultural and lived experiences are central to the work we do.
