Northern Equipment is seeking an experienced and proactive Parts Interpreter to join our growing Townsville-based team.
This is a key position within our business, primarily responsible for parts interpreting, purchasing, inventory management and supporting the efficient operation of our workshop. The successful applicant will also provide ad hoc relief for the Workshop Manager during periods of leave or absence, assisting with workshop coordination and day-to-day workflow as required.
We are looking for someone who can confidently manage parts operations while contributing to improved software, systems and procedures that increase efficiency and productivity.
About Northern EquipmentNorthern Equipment is a locally owned mechanical service and equipment hire business. We service, repair and maintain forklifts, cranes, elevated work platforms, earthmoving equipment, sweepers and scrubbers. We also provide equipment hire and parts sales to customers throughout the Townsville region.
Key ResponsibilitiesIdentifying, sourcing, quoting and ordering parts
Liaising with suppliers, customers, technicians and management
Preparing purchase orders and monitoring outstanding orders
Managing parts receipting, allocation and invoicing
Maintaining accurate stock levels and completing regular stocktakes
Assisting with customer enquiries, quotations and job updates
Maintaining accurate job records and documentation
Reviewing existing processes and identifying opportunities for improvement
Assisting with implementing new software, systems and procedures
Supporting the team to improve productivity, organisation and accountability
Maintaining a safe, organised and efficient parts and workshop environment
Providing relief workshop management duties when required, including coordinating workshop jobs, technician schedules and priorities during the Workshop Manager's absence
Monitoring job progress and supporting the workshop team to ensure work is completed efficiently while relieving
To be successful in this position, you will have:
Previous experience as a Parts Interpreter, with exposure to workshop coordination or service administration highly regarded
Experience within the mechanical, automotive, heavy equipment, earthmoving, forklift or related industries
Strong parts identification and supplier sourcing skills
Excellent organisational and time-management abilities
The confidence to coordinate workshop activities when required
Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new software
A willingness to contribute to improving systems and processes
Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills
Clear and professional communication skills
A practical, solutions-focused approach
The ability to work independently and take ownership of your responsibilities
A current Australian driver's licence
Experience with workshop management, inventory, quoting or job-management software will be highly regarded.
