About the role
Exceptional care. Brilliant people. A workplace you’ll genuinely enjoy being part of.
About the roleWe’re looking for an Emergency & Critical Care Veterinarian to join our growing ECC team at Veterinary Specialists of Sydney (VSOS) a privately owned, veterinarian-led specialist and 24/7 emergency hospital in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire.

At VSOS, you’ll work alongside specialists, emergency veterinarians, residents, interns, experienced nurses and dedicated support teams who genuinely enjoy working together. You’ll have access to the people, technology and clinical support you need to practise exceptional emergency medicine, without being expected to navigate challenging cases alone.
No two shifts are the same. You’ll manage a diverse emergency and critical care caseload, develop your clinical interests and have opportunities to build confidence in advanced procedures within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.
Key responsibilitiesManage a varied emergency and critical care caseload, from urgent presentations and stabilisation through to complex cases requiring multidisciplinary specialist input
Provide advanced emergency stabilisation, treatment and patient monitoring
Perform or develop your skills in procedures including mechanical ventilation, pericardiocentesis, central line placement, thoracic drain placement and endoscopy
Develop thorough diagnostic and treatment plans while providing clear, compassionate communication to clients
Work collaboratively with specialists, emergency veterinarians, residents, interns, nurses and support teams
Participate in clinical discussions and share knowledge across the hospital
Maintain high standards of patient care, clinical documentation and professional communication
Contribute positively to the supportive, respectful and collaborative culture that makes VSOS special
You may already be an experienced emergency veterinarian, or you may be a confident general practitioner ready to take the next step into emergency and critical care.
You will:
Hold a BVSc, DVM or equivalent veterinary qualification
Be registered, or eligible for registration, to practise in Australia
Enjoy working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Communicate with empathy, clarity and professionalism
Be motivated to continue learning and developing clinically
Remain calm, adaptable and solutions-focused in a fast-paced environment
Take pride in providing exceptional patient and client care
Care about contributing positively to your team and workplace culture
Emergency experience is highly regarded, but the right attitude, clinical foundation and willingness to learn are equally important to us.
Why you’ll love working at VSOSAbove-average remuneration tailored to your experience
Mentorship and clinical guidance from an Emergency and Critical Care Specialist
Access to multidisciplinary specialist support
Exposure to complex emergency, referral medicine and surgical cases
Experienced emergency nurses and a broader clinical support team
Advanced diagnostic, treatment and monitoring capabilities
A generous continuing education allowance and dedicated CE leave
Opportunities to develop your clinical interests and advance your emergency and critical care skills
Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance for eligible candidates
Generous staff discounts for your pets
Convenient childcare located next door
Flexible employment options across full-time, part-time and casual arrangements
We know that culture isn’t created by a sentence in a job advertisement, it’s created by how people are treated every day.
At VSOS, we want our people to feel welcomed, supported, respected and comfortable being themselves. We value clinicians who ask questions, share ideas, support their teammates and care deeply about both their patients and the people around them.
Our hospital brings together people with different specialties, backgrounds and levels of experience, however we operate as one team. We share knowledge, celebrate each other’s wins and step in for one another when things get busy.
We also make time to recognise the people who make VSOS what it is, through hospital events, team celebrations, employee recognition and the everyday moments that make a demanding shift feel worthwhile.
We work hard, have a laugh and genuinely enjoy working together. We’re serious about exceptional veterinary care, but we don’t believe that professionalism has to come at the expense of personality, connection or fun.
