The Opportunity

Outside Ideas is looking for a practical, hands-on Multi-Skilled Mechanic to join our team.

We operate a wide range of plant, vehicles, trucks, trailers and equipment, and wherever possible we prefer to carry out our maintenance and repairs in-house.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in preventative maintenance, and is comfortable turning their hand to different mechanical and workshop tasks.

This is not a role where you’ll be working on the same type of machine every day. One day you might be servicing an earthmoving machine, the next repairing a trailer, welding a bracket, fixing a small engine or sorting out a battery tool.

Key Responsibilities

The role will involves preventative maintenance, servicing, fault finding and repairs across equipment including:

• Small plant and equipment such as vibe plates, leg rammers and quick cuts

• Earthmoving and construction machinery

• Cars, utes and other light vehicles

• Trucks

• Trailers

• Battery tools

• General workshop equipment

There will also be opportunities to assist with:

• Welding

• Fabrication and modifications

• Spray painting

• Equipment repairs and refurbishment

• Tool identification and labelling

• General workshop and fleet maintenance

• Assisting in the depot with loading and unloading trucks when required

About You

Ideally, you will be a qualified:

• Automotive Mechanic / Light Vehicle Mechanic; or

• Diesel Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic

A forklift licence would be highly regarded, particularly as the role may involve assisting with loading and unloading trucks in the depot.

You don’t need to be an expert in every area listed above. We’re looking for someone with a strong mechanical background, good fault-finding skills and a willingness to learn and get involved.

Experience with earthmoving equipment, small engines, trucks, trailers, welding or fabrication would also be highly regarded.

You’ll suit the role if you:

• Have a strong focus on preventative maintenance rather than simply fixing things after they fail

• Are mechanically minded and good at problem solving

• Can work independently and manage your workload

• Take pride in keeping equipment safe, reliable and ready for work

• Are organised and comfortable keeping maintenance records

• Enjoy variety and are willing to tackle different jobs

• Have a practical, can-do attitude

• Are happy to assist with general depot duties when required

• Work well as part of a team
