The Department

Respiratory Medicine has a unique and comprehensive spectrum of expertise in Australia across clinical and basic allergy and advanced adult lung diseases, including severe asthma, emphysema, interstitial lung diseases, sleep apnoea, cystic fibrosis (CF; State Centre of Excellence) and lung transplantation. It comprises of four Clinical Services, supported by the Bronchoscopy Service, the Respiratory Physiology Service, and the Sleep Physiology Service

The Role

The Alfred Sleep Disorders and Ventilatory Failure Service is committed to providing a high quality clinical service and is actively involved in Sleep Medicine Research. 

We are seeking candidates with an appropriate science/psychology degree or who have a nursing degree to work as a Sleep Scientist in our Sleep Laboratory that is open Monday – Thursday night inclusive.  We would require the successful candidate to cover shifts when other staff may be absent.

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor of Science or Psychology
• Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be able to deal with patients in a professional and confident manner.
• Physiological monitoring, ECG interpretation and ABG sampling skills are desirable.
• Basic computer knowledge is required.
• Previous experience as a Sleep Scientist would be advantageous.
• Applicants must be task focussed, highly motivated and show initiative.
• They must be quick to learn, reliable and be able to work independently as well as part of an integrated team.
• Applicants need to be flexible and able to accommodate change easily.
