Primary objective
As part of a team of professional staff, utilise your expertise and deliver direct services to youth, their families and carers, and
support staff to achieve quality service outcomes for departmental clients in accordance with legislative and policy guidelines.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Under supervision, plan and deliver support and assistance to young people, their families and carers.
2. Foster positive links and networks within and between the Department’s programs, and other services/agencies.
3. Maintain the adherence to and consistency of program plans.
4. Provide timely and relevant advice to case management and young people’s care teams on matters relating to the safety and
wellbeing of young people.
5. Prepare clear and accurate reports as required.
6. Ensure the availability of reliable data and information through the accurate and timely recording of information on the
Department’s client information and case management systems.
7. Perform all duties in a professional manner in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and other duties as
directed.
8. Participate in the Department’s after hour’s service and assist in delivering the Department’s statutory welfare group responses
in accordance with the Emergency Management Act.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience in welfare, youth work, human services or a related field.
2. An understanding of Aboriginal and diverse cultures and the impact of social, health and wellbeing, political, economical,
educational and equal opportunity factors, and trauma factors on the wellbeing and development of people and communities.
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team setting, including demonstrated skills in negotiation,
conflict resolution and teamwork.
4. High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and understand clients situations and work in a way that encourages
children and young people to actively participate in programs and activities.
5. Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable young people including an understanding of child and adolescent
development, issues with drug use, poverty, cultural identity, mental health and disability.
6. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work constructively within culturally diverse settings, including a demonstrated
knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures.
7. Good organisation skills with the ability to prioritise workloads, and work independently and manage time effectively.
8. Preparedness to travel in 4WD vehicles and light planes, as required, and ability to undertake travel including overnight stays
as necessary.
9. Current NT driver’s licence.
Desirable
1. Certificate IV in Youth Work or Community Services or equivalent.
