Steel erection leading hand

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Steel Erection Leading Hand to join Bayswater Cranes in Perth, WA. This is a full-time position based in Perth WA 6000, where you will take a leadership role in overseeing steel erection operations on construction sites. As a Steel Erection Leading Hand, you will be responsible for managing teams, ensuring safe work practices, coordinating with crane operators and other trades, and maintaining project schedules. This role is pivotal in ensuring that steel structures are erected safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards, whilst maintaining compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies.

Key responsibilities

• Supervising and coordinating steel erection teams on site, ensuring all workers understand their tasks and safety requirements

• Liaising with crane operators, riggers and other trades to ensure smooth workflow and safe coordination of steel erection activities

• Inspecting steel members, connections and fastening to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and quality standards

• Monitoring project progress and reporting on completion of work stages

• Training and mentoring team members

• Communicating effectively with project managers, engineers and other stakeholders regarding progress and challenges

What we're looking for

• Extensive experience in steel erection operations, with a minimum of 2 years in a leading hand or supervisory capacity

• Strong knowledge of steel structures, connections, bolting procedures and welding requirements

• Comprehensive understanding of crane safety, rigging practices and load management principles

• Valid White Card (Construction Induction) and current First Aid qualification

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise work effectively

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and site plans

• Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to different project sites as required
