WORKING IN THE POSITIONUnder the general direction of the Library and Information Services Manager, the Research & Online Experience Librarian supports teaching, learning and research at AFTRS through the delivery of research services and online resources. Working as part of a small team, the role maintains and enhances the Library's online presence, improves access to and discoverability of library resources and collections, and provides high-quality customer service, research support, training and advice to the AFTRS community.
Key AccountabilitiesResearch Programs: In consultation with the Information and Services Manager, design, deliver and promote innovative research skills programs and initiatives for AFTRS students and staff that build capability in research and information skills, as well as digital literacy.
Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise and cultivate relationships with AFTRS stakeholders, including Student Centre, Research and Teaching & Learning concerning programmatic and student support needs.
Online Presence: Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Library’s online presence, including websites, intranet, social media, communications and Moodle.
Research Support: In consultation with the Information and Services Manager, support research activities across AFTRS, including those undertaken by the Research Department and wider School community, through the provision of library resources, services and expertise.
Research Consultations: Provide in-depth consultations for individuals and small groups in the AFTRS community on the use of information resources.
Study Materials: Develop study materials and research guides to enable users to effectively find and use specialised information resources and services, and increase awareness and use of the Library’s resources, tools and services.
Research Collections: Develop and maintain research collections and systems, in collaboration with the AFTRS Library staff, including reserve and serial collections which includes processing serial issues in the Library Management System.
Copyright Compliance: Assist the Library and Information Services Manager with the monitoring of and communication to the AFTRS community about copyright compliance and ensure adherence processes are in place.
Strategic Projects: Collaborate with and support AFTRS departments to successfully deliver projects that contribute to the objectives of the AFTRS Strategic Plan.
Library Promotion: Assist with promoting Library resources, events and services displays, social media and newsletters.
Basic Cataloguing: Under the supervision of the Library & Information Services Manager, perform basic cataloguing of the Library resources.
Archives Support: Assist in the operation of archiving AFTRS historical information and developing new procedures and workflows.
Client Services: Undertake client service activities, such as Inter-Library Loans and Information Desk support, and participate in shelving and stocktake.
Library Procedures: Ensure the Library has current and appropriate documented policies, procedures and processes in place to facilitate effective management of the Library.
Trainee Supervision: Supervise trainees as required.
Other Duties: There may be a requirement to undertake tasks outside the scope of the responsibilities listed to support the organisation. AFTRS will engage in a conversation should these tasks arise.
The People & Culture team comprises the Reception, Library, Student Centre, HR and Payroll teams. The team works together to ensure that the People Experience at AFTRS, for staff, students and the public, is a warm, welcoming, vibrant and safe experience in line with the school’s values.
With a largely internal focus, this team is responsible for providing information, guidance, resources and support to both staff and students to ensure a psychologically and culturally safe environment that values difference and promotes inclusivity, whilst creating a culture that celebrates creativity, wellbeing and lifelong learning.
SELECTION/CAPABILITIES CRITERIALibrary Experience: Relevant experience working in a Library, preferably with an education focus.
Library Qualification: Completed or studying towards a qualification in Library and Information Sciences which would allow membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
Research Support: Demonstrated skills and experience in face-to-face and online research support and guidance, including referencing, and knowledge of scholarly resources and research methods.
Library Systems: Experience in the use of online resources, Library systems, bibliographic tools and standards, and the ability to acquire new skills on a range of software and systems as required.
Digital Content and Website Management: Knowledge of website usability, accessibility and user experience principles, with the ability to contribute to the development and maintenance of library websites and online services.
Customer Service: Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality customer service as part of a team and independently.
Teamwork: Proven ability to work both autonomously and cooperatively as part of a team.
Communication Skills: Sound communication, including well-developed written and oral skills, and organisation skills.
Workflow Development: Ability to develop effective and efficient workflows and processes.
Safe Work Environments: Experience in fostering culturally and psychologically safe work environments.
10. Understanding of and passion for the arts and creative industries.
11. Experience using a Library Information Management System (Spydus an advantage) and LibGuides.
