Our client is a specialist law and strategy firm serving the industrial, engineering and technical sectors — the only firm of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region. They work with companies that make, build, design, and service complex systems, covering everything from contract negotiation and dispute resolution to M&A, governance, and crisis response, essentially acting as a one-stop legal partner at every stage of a client's business.
They've spent more than a decade acting for some of Australia's largest engineering and industrial companies, and they've been running a fully distributed team since 2012. They're 100% focused on their clients, which means their energy goes outward rather than into internal politics.
 
They're looking for a Senior Associate to join the team, reporting to a Managing Associate.
 
What you'll be doing:

• Managing and servicing client needs proactively — spotting problems before they become expensive ones
• Sharing your knowledge and driving smarter use of technology, data and process to make the team more valuable to clients
• Owning the quality of the solutions you deliver, including compliance with ethics and professional conduct
• Building genuine trust with clients by understanding their industry, communicating clearly and often, and being the person they know they can rely on
• Constantly looking for better ways to help clients succeed — proposing and piloting new approaches, not just executing the old ones

What you'll bring:

• Solid legal knowledge with a broad enough background to solve problems and take real ownership of matters
• The ability to read financial statements and align legal strategy with a client's financial objectives
• A knack for navigating client organisations — knowing who to ask for what, with minimal friction
• An instinct for making clients' lives easier, in support of your Managing Associate

The honest bit: the toughest part of this job is constant change, and figuring out what clients' real problems actually are — then designing and executing the fix. You'll be accountable for your work, and expected to reflect and improve. The cookie-cutter approach won't work here!
 
Success looks like: the Managing Associate trusts you completely — they know that if they bring you a client issue, you'll be on the same page and you'll put in place robust, preventative solutions. Your focus will be on generating real value for each client's specific business, adapting as that business evolves.
