Graduate Accountant or Accounting Traineeship

About the role

We are seeking a talented Graduate Accountant or Accounting Trainee to join the team at GowingAdvisory Chartered Accountants. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or school leaver who is eager to launch a career in accounting and business services. Based in Muswellbrook, NSW, this is a full-time position that will provide you with comprehensive exposure to diverse accounting practices and real-world client work. You will work alongside experienced chartered accountants who are committed to your professional development and will guide you through your accounting qualifications whilst building valuable practical experience in a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and review of financial statements, tax returns and other accounting documents for a diverse range of clients

• Perform bookkeeping tasks including data entry, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable processing

• Prepare financial reports and analysis for clients across various industries

• Conduct research on accounting and tax matters relevant to client situations

• Assist with business advisory services, including preliminary financial analysis and business performance reviews

• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations

• Liaise with clients to gather information and clarify accounting matters

• Participate in professional development activities and training to progress your accounting qualifications

What we're looking for

• Recent graduate with a degree in accounting, commerce or related discipline, or a school leaver with a genuine interest in pursuing an accounting career

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with cloud-based accounting systems such as Xero or Reckon is advantageous)

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly to clients and colleagues

• Organised and proactive approach to work with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

• Professional demeanour and commitment to ethical standards in accounting and business practices

• Willingness to undertake professional accounting qualifications (CPA or CA Australia pathway)

• Problem-solving mindset and a desire to continuously learn and develop within the accounting profession

• Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
