About the role

Phillips Accountants is seeking a talented Accountant to join our growing team in Cairns, Queensland. This is a full-time position that offers an excellent opportunity to develop your accounting expertise whilst working with a diverse client base in a supportive, professional environment. As an Accountant, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality financial services and taxation advice to our clients, contributing directly to the success and reputation of our firm.

What you'll be doing

• Preparing and reviewing financial statements and accounts for clients across various industries

• Managing tax compliance matters, including preparation of tax returns and lodgement with relevant authorities

• Providing taxation advice and strategic planning to clients to optimise their tax positions

• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records for client accounts

• Liaising with clients to gather financial information and clarify accounting matters

• Assisting with audit and compliance requirements in accordance with relevant accounting standards

• Supporting senior accountants and partners with complex accounting and taxation issues

• Staying current with changes in taxation legislation and accounting standards

• Contributing to the development of efficient accounting processes and systems

What we're looking for

• A relevant accounting qualification, such as CPA, CA, or equivalent recognised accounting credential, or demonstrated equivalent experience

• Strong knowledge of taxation principles and experience with tax compliance and planning

• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications

• Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills

• Ability to manage multiple client engagements and meet deadlines

• Clear communication skills and the ability to explain complex accounting matters to clients

• A commitment to professional development and staying abreast of industry changes

• Reliability, integrity and a strong work ethic

• Preferred experience: Previous experience in a accounting firm or similar professional services environment

• Preferred experience: Knowledge of superannuation and business structures such as trusts and partnerships
