QA/QC Chemist

As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Senior QA/QC Chemist to join our team and help ensure every product meets the highest standards of quality, safety and performance.

This is a hands-on role that combines Quality Assurance, Quality Control and technical product development. Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, approving product batches, maintaining quality systems and supporting the development of new skincare formulations.

Working closely with Production, Procurement, Regulatory and Product Development, you'll help ensure our products consistently meet customer expectations, regulatory requirements and the highest quality standards.

• Perform quality testing of raw materials, bulk products, packaging components and finished goods.

• Conduct routine laboratory testing including pH, viscosity, specific gravity, appearance, colour, odour and fill weight.

• Review manufacturing batch records and laboratory results.

• Approve or reject raw materials, bulk products and finished goods against specifications.

• Release production batches and finished goods once quality requirements have been met.

• Investigate customer complaints, non-conformances and out-of-specification (OOS) results.

• Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

• Maintain and improve Quality Management System (QMS) documentation, including SOPs, specifications and test methods.

• Participate in internal and external quality audits.

• Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 22716 (Cosmetic GMP) and relevant cosmetic regulations.

• Support the development of new skincare and personal care formulations.

• Conduct laboratory formulation trials, stability testing and compatibility assessments.

• Assist in reformulating existing products to improve performance, quality, stability and cost.

• Evaluate new raw materials and provide technical recommendations.

• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across quality systems and laboratory processes.

• Mentor junior laboratory staff and provide technical support across the business.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutical Science or a related discipline.

• Minimum 5 years' experience in a QA/QC or formulation role within the skincare, cosmetics, personal care or pharmaceutical industry.

• Strong knowledge of cosmetic formulations, quality systems and GMP.

• Experience with batch release, quality investigations and CAPA.

• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 22716.

• Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment including pH meters, viscometers and analytical instruments.

• Excellent problem-solving, analytical and organisational skills.
