System Engineer ICT Service Delivery

Mt Lyell is an iconic asset that has helped shape Australian mining for over 120 years. Today, it’s poised at the start of its next chapter, which consists of large-scale brownfields restart project, delivering an operation that will support the growing global demand for copper as a critical energy transition metal, with significant gold and silver by-products. 

Sibanye-Stillwater Australia has completed the studies necessary to support the restart of operations, consisting of underground mining, the construction of a new processing facility, a paste backfill system, shaft infrastructure refurbishment, and all the other required non-process infrastructure at Mt Lyell. 

About the role 
This is a site-based role where your technical expertise will have a direct impact every day. You’ll be responsible for keeping the ICT environment reliable, secure and ready to support our operational, corporate and site-based teams — from network and server infrastructure through to the devices and applications people rely on to get their jobs done. 

Working alongside the OT Systems Engineer, Senior Systems Engineer, Group ICT, vendors and operational stakeholders, you’ll be at the centre of ICT service delivery across the site. 

What you’ll do 
You’ll take ownership of the day-to-day operation, maintenance and improvement of site ICT infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers, Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file services, storage, backups and core infrastructure. 

You’ll also support and maintain switching, routing, firewalls, wireless, VPNs and site communications, monitoring infrastructure health and performance and responding quickly when things don’t go to plan. From investigating a network outage or server fault to coordinating upgrades, patching, firmware updates and technology refreshes, you’ll help ensure the environment remains stable, secure and supportable. 

A big part of the role is being hands-on with our users. You’ll provide Level 1 and Level 2 support across desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, meeting-room technology and standard business applications. You’ll help users with Microsoft 365, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, endpoint security, MFA, remote access and account issues, while providing professional onsite support across office, processing plant, maintenance, administration and operational environments. 

You’ll also play an important role in security and service delivery. This includes applying security controls and configuration standards, maintaining accurate documentation and asset records, following change-management processes, supporting incident and root-cause reviews, and escalating cybersecurity concerns and infrastructure risks appropriately.

What you’ll bring 
We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, getting hands-on with technology and working directly with people. 

You’ll ideally have a Certificate IV, Diploma or Degree in IT, Computer Science, Networking, Systems Engineering or a related discipline, together with demonstrated experience supporting enterprise ICT environments. 

You should be comfortable working across Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft 365, endpoint management, virtualisation and network technologies, with practical experience troubleshooting switching, routing, wireless, firewalls, VPNs and site communications. 

Experience in mining, industrial, regional or remote operational environments will be highly regarded, as will experience with IT service management, incident and change management, asset management and infrastructure projects. 

Vendor certifications across technologies such as Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto or Meraki will be an advantage. Familiarity with ISO/IEC 27001 and IEC 62443, particularly within industrial, OT or enterprise environments, will also be highly regarded. 

Most importantly, you’ll be a strong communicator who can manage competing priorities, work collaboratively with technical and operational stakeholders, and stay calm and methodical when troubleshooting under pressure.

What you’ll need 
You’ll need a current unrestricted Australian driver licence, be able to meet relevant site access, security screening and induction requirements, and be medically fit to work in the relevant business area. 

The role requires the ability to work safely in an operational mining environment; travel as required and work a roster that includes Sundays.
