Primary objective
Applies advanced nursing/midwifery knowledge, skills, attributes and abilities within a specified area of clinical practice in therapeutic and
professional relationships with individuals, as well as with families, groups and communities.

Context statement
Working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary primary health care team, this position will contribute toward the promotion,
implementation and evaluation of healthcare programs focussed on improving outcomes for clients held in custody within the custodial
setting across the Darwin region. The successful applicant would have a sound understanding of the health issues affecting Aboriginal
clients, and have demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience relevant to the delivery of health care within the custodial nursing care
setting. The successful applicant will be required to have experience driving a manual vehicle and be eligible to obtain a NT drivers Licence
and meet the Northern Territory Correctional Services security clearance requirements.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide comprehensive, safe, and effective evidence-based nursing/midwifery care to achieve identified individual/group health

outcomes.
2. Provide leadership and care coordination across a shift and act as a resource to other members of staff within a designated portfolio

e.g. education, NSQHS Standard.
3. Accountable for the planning, provision, and communication of nursing/midwifery care, including the evaluation and required revision

of practice.
4. Demonstrate NTH values - safe; responsive; kind – in all decision-making and interactions with consumers and colleagues.
5. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
6. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same.
2. Demonstrated well-developed knowledge, skills and experience in a relevant area of nursing/midwifery relating to this vacancy with

depth in some areas and a broad range of skills.
3. Demonstrated ability to act as a clinical resource person and role model, including mentoring and preceptoring less experienced staff

and students.
4. Demonstrated contribution to the development and implementation of local activities beyond direct client care e.g. clinical education,

assist in management, research/quality assurance activities.
5. Demonstrated effective communication skills to achieve positive outcomes, including maintaining productive multi-disciplinary

working relationships, effectively dealing with challenging behaviours, and resolving conflicts.
6. Demonstrated well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences and sensitivities that

influence health care provision for clients and families.

Desirable
1. Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice in relevant specialty area.
