About the role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Cook to join the kitchen team at Australian Arms Hotel in Penrith, NSW. This is a full-time position offering an exciting opportunity to work in a vibrant hospitality environment where your culinary skills and dedication will be valued. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality meals to our diverse clientele, contributing to the restaurant and bar operations that are central to our venue's success.

What you'll be doing

• Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to established recipes and standards, ensuring consistency in quality and presentation

• Managing food preparation stations and maintaining organisation and cleanliness of your work area throughout service

• Following food safety and hygiene protocols, including proper food handling, storage and temperature management

• Coordinating with other kitchen staff to ensure timely and accurate meal preparation during peak service periods

• Plating and garnishing dishes to meet the venue's presentation standards before service to guests

• Assisting with menu planning and suggesting new dishes or improvements to existing offerings

• Receiving and checking deliveries, inspecting food quality and managing inventory rotation

• Maintaining kitchen equipment and reporting any maintenance issues or repairs needed

• Training and mentoring junior kitchen staff as required, fostering a supportive team environment

• Adhering to all health and safety regulations and company policies

What we're looking for

• Recognised culinary qualification or substantial demonstrable experience working as a cook in a professional kitchen environment

• Proficiency in food preparation techniques, cooking methods and a broad knowledge of cuisines

• Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation and hygiene standards, including current food handling certification or willingness to obtain one

• Excellent time management skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods

• Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic and commitment to quality

• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a kitchen team

• Physical fitness and stamina to meet the demands of a full-time kitchen role, including standing for extended periods and lifting heavy items

• Attention to detail and a genuine passion for food preparation and presentation

• Experience working in hotels, pubs or restaurants is highly desirable
