About the role
At Australian Bay Lobster Producers (ABLP), we’re proud to be pioneering the growth of soft-shell lobster, a unique and innovative seafood product that’s making waves in the market. As an integrated seafood company based in the stunning Northern Rivers of NSW, we are looking for passionate and motivated individuals to join our team and be part of something truly special!
If you’ve got a strong work ethic, an eagerness to learn, and a desire to contribute to the world of aquaculture, then this is your chance to dive in at the ground level and grow with us!
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop valuable skills in the thriving aquaculture industry. As a member of our Husbandry Team, you’ll play an integral part in the day-to-day care and maintenance of our lobster stock and facility. No prior experience required—just bring your energy, enthusiasm, and a passion for learning! We provide full training and the opportunity to develop your skills in an innovative and growing company.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitor the health and well-being of our lobster stock, ensuring they thrive in a controlled, sustainable environment.
Undertake both preventative and reactive care: feed, inspect, transfer, and treat animals as needed.
Perform general upkeep and maintenance of aquaculture systems, including cleaning tanks, monitoring equipment, and ensuring production areas.
Observe and record animal health, growth, and behavior; communicate effectively with colleagues and report findings to senior staff.
Follow company policies, procedures, and Workplace Health & Safety guidelines to maintain a safe and productive working environment.
What We’re Looking For:
We want individuals who are ready to work hard, learn quickly, and contribute positively to the team. If you’ve got these qualities, you’re a great fit for us:
Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team.
Exceptional observation skills and an eye for detail.
Physically fit and capable of handling repetitive, labour-intensive tasks
A can-do attitude, open to giving and receiving feedback
A proactive approach to learning and growth in the aquaculture field
Good planning and organisational skills to achieve daily tasks
Punctual, reliable, and committed to delivering quality results
About the Position:
Full-time role with a minimum of 38 hours per week
4 Weekly Roster – available to work a 4-week rolling roster which includes night shifts (5pm to 1am), weekends, and some public holidays.
Must have a current driver’s license and reliable transport to attend work
You must be an Australian resident or have full work rights in Australia
Zero tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol (medical testing may be required pre/post-employment)
Working Environment:
You’ll be working in a dynamic, hands-on environment where temperatures typically range from 25-30°C, and the air is filled with the unique humidity of our production systems. Much of the work is carried out in low-light conditions (torches provided), and some tasks may involve working at heights.
What’s In It for You?
Competitive pay: Base remuneration is above the industry award rate plus superannuation.
On-the-job training: Gain valuable skills and experience in an innovative industry.
Company Share Option: Once eligible, you’ll have the opportunity to acquire shares in the company through our Employee Share Scheme (ESS).
Positive and supportive workplace culture with a great team that celebrates success and fosters learning.
Work in a beautiful location: Our facility is situated in the Northern Rivers of NSW, one of the most scenic and desirable regions in Australia.
