Parks Operational Leader

About the role
In this role, you will lead and support a team of frontline leaders to deliver high-quality parks and natural assets maintenance across the municipality. By coaching, mentoring and empowering your leaders, you’ll drive a culture of collaboration, safety, accountability and continuous improvement across a large operational workforce. You’ll ensure services are delivered efficiently, sustainably and in line with Council’s goals, creating well-maintained parks and open spaces that enhance the liveability of our community.

Work type: Permanent Full-Time
Classification: Band X $109,342 pa plus super

Key responsibilities include:

• Competently manage the delivery and performance of Council’s maintenance program through the efficient use of physical, mechanical and financial resources.
• Monitor and control contracts, both internal and external, ensuring compliance with established Service Level Agreements and adjusting for commercial sustainability, competitiveness and best value.
• Actively contribute to the development and delivery of relevant short- and long-term strategies, service level agreements and action plans.
• Support and drive cultural change, in line with established people programs and strategies.
• Identify and recommend operational business improvements.
• Effective coaching and leadership guidance to frontline leaders and their teams, focused on achieving success through continued development of team capability in order to deliver Parks & Natural Assets five-year service plan.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a relevant qualification in Horticulture, Parks & Gardens, Local Government, Business, or extensive experience in a similar position.

Essential:

• Extensive and diverse leadership within a large depot team environment, with the ability to foster an environment for high-functioning, productive and engaged teams.
• Demonstrated commercial acumen, with experience in contract management and business planning, including financial and resource management.
• Genuine interest and experience in driving continual improvement activities and delivering cultural change in a challenging environment.
• Competent knowledge and understanding of horticultural maintenance requirements.
• Demonstrable experience in collaboratively establishing and measuring performance against KPI’s and service levels.
• Demonstrated ability to actively monitor, promote and improve a safety-first work culture within your team.
• Current Victorian Drivers Licence.
• Current Working with Children Check (Employee).
• Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a pre-employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
