Expressions of Interest | Two Board Director Appointments | Commencing 2027
Salesian College Sunbury is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced individuals to be considered for appointment as non-executive Directors of Salesian College Sunbury Limited, commencing in 2027.
About Salesian College Sunbury
Salesian College Sunbury is a Catholic co-educational secondary school conducted in the Salesian tradition and inspired by the educational vision of St John Bosco.
The College's mission is to evangelise and educate young people in accordance with the spirit and mission of St John Bosco. Its educational philosophy is founded on the Salesian Preventive System of reason, religion and loving-kindness. Consistent with the Charter for Salesian Schools adopted under the College Constitution, Salesian College Sunbury seeks to be a home that welcomes, a parish that evangelises, a school that prepares for life and a playground where friends meet and enjoy themselves.
The Board of Salesian College Sunbury Limited is responsible for the governance, strategic direction and stewardship of the College, working in partnership with the Principal and College leadership while remaining faithful to the College's Catholic identity and Salesian charism.
The opportunity
As part of planned Board succession and renewal, the College is seeking two new non-executive Directors whose experience will complement the existing skills and capability of the Board. Candidates are not expected to possess expertise across every area identified below. The intention is to appoint two Directors with complementary capabilities who, collectively, strengthen the Board.
While applications are welcomed from candidates with significant governance and executive experience across a range of disciplines, the Board is particularly interested in candidates who bring strength in one of the following priority areas:
Accounting, Finance, Audit and Risk
Senior-level experience in accounting, financial management, audit, assurance, risk or related disciplines. A recognised professional qualification such as CA, CPA or equivalent would be highly regarded. Candidates with the capability and interest to contribute to, and potentially chair, the Board's Finance and Audit Committee are particularly encouraged to apply.
Education
Senior leadership, governance or professional experience in education, preferably within the Catholic, independent or secondary school sectors. Experience may include educational strategy, school governance, contemporary teaching and learning, student outcomes, regulatory environments or organisational leadership.
The Board would also value experience in one or more complementary areas including:
governance, strategy and organisational performance;
enterprise risk, compliance and assurance;
property, infrastructure and major capital development;
legal and regulatory governance;
people, culture and organisational development;
digital transformation, cyber security and artificial intelligence;
child safety and safeguarding; and
Catholic education, mission and formation.
What we are looking for
Successful candidates will bring:
demonstrated senior executive, professional or governance experience;
strategic judgement and the capacity to contribute constructively at Board level;
financial and commercial acumen appropriate to the governance of a significant educational organisation;
independence of thought and the confidence to respectfully challenge and test management proposals;
high standards of integrity, accountability and ethical judgement;
an understanding of the distinction between governance and management;
a commitment to child safety and the wellbeing of young people; and
a genuine willingness to understand, support and actively contribute to the Catholic identity, Salesian mission and educational philosophy of Salesian College Sunbury.
Candidates do not need to have previously served within a Salesian organisation. However, Directors must be willing to participate in appropriate Salesian and Catholic formation and support the mission and objects of the College.
Governance commitment
Directors are expected to prepare for and participate actively in Board meetings, serve on Board Committees as appointed, participate in strategy and formation activities, and attend key College events where appropriate.
Appointments are generally for a term of up to three years and are voluntary, non-remunerated positions.
Under the Constitution of Salesian College Sunbury Limited, appointments to these Director positions are made by the Members of the Company – the Provincial and members of the Provincial Council – having regard to recommendations made by the Board. Candidates will also be required to satisfy applicable regulatory and probity requirements for directors and responsible persons of a Victorian Catholic school and registered charity.
Expressions of Interest
Expressions of interest should include:
a current curriculum vitae;
a brief covering letter outlining the candidate's interest in the role;
the skills and experience they would bring to the Board; and
their interest in and capacity to support the Catholic and Salesian mission of Salesian College Sunbury.
Apply here.
Applications close: 30 September 2026
