About the Role

TCWA’s newest workshop - Phil's Recon Shop is seeking an experienced Powder Coater to join our growing team. We are looking for someone who has a keen eye for detail, take’s pride in producing high-quality finishes, and enjoy working in a fast-paced workshop environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare metal components by degreasing, chemical washing, and abrasive blasting to ensure optimal powder adhesion.
• Mask components using high-temperature tape, silicone plugs, and caps to protect designated areas from coating.
• Set up and operate electrostatic powder coating equipment, including spray guns, powder hoppers, and fluidised beds.
• Monitor and manage industrial curing ovens, adjusting temperatures and bake cycles to suit material specifications and coating requirements.
• Inspect completed work for defects such as runs, pinholes, light coverage, and orange peel, ensuring a high-quality finish.
• Measure dry film thickness using digital gauges to ensure coatings meet client and quality specifications.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of spray guns, powder booths, hoppers, and associated equipment to prevent colour contamination and maintain performance.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment while following all workplace health and safety procedures.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• Certificate III in Surface Finishing or a similar trade qualification (highly regarded).
• 1–3 years' experience operating industrial powder coating systems.
• Proven ability to apply powder coatings using consistent spray techniques to achieve an even, high-quality finish.
• Strong understanding of powder chemistry, film thickness requirements, and curing schedules.
• Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to identify surface imperfections before and after coating.
• Sound mechanical aptitude, including the ability to disassemble, clean, maintain, and reassemble powder coating equipment.
• A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
