About the Project 

The Australian Museum’s education programs connect students, teachers and communities with science, natural history, First Nations and Pasifika cultures through engaging and meaningful learning experiences. 

Working across onsite, online and offsite learning, the Education team develops programs and resources that bring the Museum’s collections, research, exhibitions and cultural knowledge to life. Programs are designed in collaboration with communities and stakeholders to respond to NSW curriculum priorities, community expectations and the needs of diverse audiences, while supporting First Nations voice and agency through culturally informed practice.

About the Role 

As an Education Project Officer (First Nations), you will research, design, develop, deliver and evaluate education programs and learning resources that enhance the understanding of First Nations cultures, science and natural history for school, tertiary and community audiences. 

You will work closely with First Nations colleagues and communities, Pasifika colleagues, scientists, educators and partner organisations to co-design programs and resources that reflect community priorities and support culturally informed practice. Your experience with NSW curriculum and culturally responsive education practices will ensure programs delivered at the Museum, online and through offsite initiatives, are aligned with audience needs and expectations. 

You will contribute to teaching and program delivery and support the ongoing development and promotion of the Museum’s education offering, as well as assisting the First Nations Education Lead, Manager, First Nations and Head of Education to develop the strategic direction for learning programs. 

Employment Status:

•  Clerk Grade 5/6 
•  Fixed Term, up to 30 June 2029
•  Full Time, 35 hours a week

You will be paid a competitive total remuneration package of $116,832.52 - $128,912.31, including an annual salary of $102,936 - $113,579, plus employer’s contribution to superannuation (currently 12%) and annual leave loading.

About you 

You are a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with a passion for supporting learning through First Nations knowledges, cultures, histories and perspectives. You enjoy working collaboratively with communities, educators, cultural practitioners and colleagues to create meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity, understanding and respect. You value cultural integrity, community connection and First Nations leadership, and are committed to ensuring First Nations perspectives are embedded across education programs, resources and activities.  

To be eligible for this role at the Australian Museum, you must hold full working rights in Australia and meet all essential requirements listed in the position description. 

Knowledge and Experience

•  Ability to teach a variety of education programs and experience in and understanding of how to translate complex scientific and cultural content for students and community audiences of a range of ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
•  Understanding, knowledge and interest in natural sciences, climate solutions, First Nations and Pasifika cultures, and cultural heritage issues.
•  Demonstrated experience in education program development.
•  Experience working with First Nations community, organisations and/or knowledges.
•  Adequate knowledge and experience in order to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in this Role Description.

Essential Requirements

•  Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent - Aboriginality/Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
•  Tertiary qualifications in Education, or extensive experience in a similar role.
•  Hold a valid NSW Working with Children Clearance
