About the role
Location: Melbourne CBD, HybridWork Hours: Full time role Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000 + superannuation + ESOPReports to: Director
Company Description Our mission is to “make work effective and enjoyable with fricken awesome software”. We build software that transforms how businesses manage their operations across Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, South Africa, and North America,We back our team to learn, take risks, snack often, and speak honestly. We believe in levelling up, scrapping convention, and keeping things local where we can. You’ll be joining a company that’s serious about growth but doesn’t take itself too seriously. We’re growing rapidly but sustainably, and we’re enjoying the journey. If you’re looking for a role full of great people, exciting opportunities, and where your input will be a key part of the future of the company, we’d love to meet you.
Role Description Traffio is looking for a Finance manager to own day-to-day finance operations across our three geographic entities and currencies, and to lift the business from outsourced bookkeeping to a properly controlled, well-documented finance function that produces timely, trustworthy numbers. This is a hands-on role, you'll be doing the work as well as designing how it gets done. You'll be doing the work as well as designing how it gets done. Success looks like a business where month-end close is fast and predictable, the budget is a live management tool rather than a spreadsheet nobody opens, cash is collected on time, and the directors can see how the business is tracking. We're looking for someone currently working as a Finance Manager or Finance Officer who is ready to move into a role where they're running finance for a small global business owning the function end-to-end rather than being one part of a larger team.
Qualifications5+ years in finance or an accounting role, including experience as the most senior finance person in a small business or as a strong number two.Either CA/CPA qualified, part-qualified, or demonstrable experience preparing accrual-basis accounts across multiple entitiesExperienced with Xero, ideally across multiple entities, plus advanced Excel or Google Sheets.Hands-on experience across the full cycle: AP, AR, payroll, reconciliation, month-end and BAS.Demonstrated ability to build processes where none exists, and to document it clearly.Comfort with multi-currency transactions and customers in multiple countries.Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain financial results to non-finance people.Australian work rights and willingness to work from our Melbourne CBD office three days a week.
DesirableExperience in a SaaS, technology or subscription business, including recurring revenue metrics.Exposure to overseas tax and compliance (US sales tax, UK/Ireland VAT, NZ GST or South African VAT.)Experience implementing finance systems or automation (e.g. approval workflow, expense management, billing or payment integrations).Experience working with employer-of-record arrangements or overseas payroll providers.Experience supporting R&D Tax Incentive claims.
About YouAccurate by instinct, and willing to check your own work.Self-directed - you will not have a finance team around you, and you will need to set your own priorities and follow through.Curious about the business, not just the ledger. You will ask why a number moved before you report it.Pragmatic about controls: you can tell the difference between a control that protects the business and process for its own sake.Trustworthy with confidential information, and prepared to raise issues directly with the directors.Comfortable working with colleagues in other time zones, including occasional flexibility around start or finish times (there is no expectation for you to be regularly contactable outside AU hours).Enthusiastic about being part of the Traffio story. We’re passionate about helping companies around the world become more efficient and safer, and about building a work environment where everyone is valued, respected, and proud of their input. We want you to share those values.
Key Responsibilities Own the accuracy and integrity of three Xero files, including bank and credit card reconciliation, coding discipline and the chart of accounts.Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations between group entities, and produce a consolidated view of group performance.Run month-end close to an agreed timetable: accruals, prepayments, deferred revenue, fixed assets, foreign currency revaluation and balance sheet reconciliations.Maintain balance sheet reconciliation files so that every material balance can be substantiated on request.
Revenue, invoicing and receivablesOversee the largely-automated billing cycle: check that what the platform bills matches what customers have contracted, investigate exceptions and fix the root cause rather than the symptom.Own accounts receivable end to end - proactive collections, dunning process, escalation path, credit terms and write-off recommendations.Reconcile customer payments across multiple currencies, payment gateways and merchant settlement accounts, including any fees, chargebacks and FX differences.
Payables and supplier managementProcess and pay suppliers accurately and on time across multiple currencies, within an agreed approval framework.Maintain supplier master data and payment details, with verification controls to protect against payment fraud and invoice redirection.Review recurring vendor and SaaS spend and flag opportunities to consolidate or renegotiate.
Payroll and employment obligationsRun or oversee payroll across the group's employing entities and arrangements, including Australian and UK payroll and coordination with our US payroll provider (Gusto).Manage superannuation, PAYG withholding, Single Touch Payroll reporting, payroll tax and workers' compensation obligations.Maintain payroll records, leave provisions and employment cost reporting; act as the first point of contact for pay queries. Keep payroll confidential and handle sensitive employee data appropriately.
Budgeting, forecasting and reportingTrack income and expenditure against budget, investigate variances and give the directors a clear explanation of what is driving them.Refine and rebuild the annual budget with input from the directors and department leads, and maintain a rolling reforecast.Produce and continually improve a monthly director reporting pack: P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, budget variance, key metrics and commentary.
Tax, compliance and external relationshipsPrepare and lodge BAS and IAS, and manage GST/VAT/sales tax obligations across the jurisdictions in which Traffio operates, in conjunction with our external advisors.Be the day-to-day contact for our accountant, auditors (if and when required) and tax advisors; prepare year-end workpapers and answer queries without needing to be chased.Support R&D Tax Incentive claims and any statutory or regulatory reporting.Maintain company secretarial and ASIC records, insurance renewals and finance-related registrations.
Process, systems and controlsDocument how finance actually works at Traffio — write the procedures, own them, and keep them current.Design and implement practical internal controls: segregation of duties, approval and delegation limits, payment authorisation, and month-end checklists appropriate to a business of our size.Improve and automate the finance tech stack (Xero and its ecosystem, expense management, approval workflow, billing and payment integrations) rather than accepting manual workarounds. Traffio’s invoicing is largely automated, so you won’t be spending time creating invoices.Manage the transition of work from our external bookkeeper to in-house, without dropping anything along the way.
What success looks likeFirst 3 monthsYou understand all three Xero files and the group structure, payroll and BAS are running smoothly under your hand, the transition from the bookkeeper is mapped, and receivables are actively managed.
6 monthsMonth-end close runs to a published timetable, a monthly director pack is produced, key procedures are documented.
12 monthsThe budget is rebuilt and used as a live management tool, a rolling cash flow forecast is in place, controls and approval limits are operating, and manual work has been meaningfully reduced through better systems.
