About the role
GTM Facility Services is looking for an experienced Carpenter to join our team in Canberra, ACT.
If you have a passion for carpentry, strong practical skills and are interested in developing your career while working on a variety of construction, maintenance and property projects, we would like to hear from you.
The successful candidate will work closely with our team to carry out high-quality carpentry, installation, repair and maintenance work while ensuring all work is completed safely and professionally.
Proven experience as a Carpenter for at least 2 years.
Hands-on experience working with timber and other carpentry materials.
Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques, installation methods and construction processes.
Proficient in using electrical and manual carpentry equipment and measurement tools, including powered saws, drills, hammers, levels and measuring equipment.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings, plans and specifications.
Good knowledge of construction and carpentry safety requirements.
Willingness to follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times.
Good communication skills.
Good understanding of basic mathematics and measurements.
Good physical condition and ability to undertake manual work.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Certificate III in Carpentry or relevant qualification preferred.
The Carpenter will be responsible for:
Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, plans and sketches to understand project requirements.
Taking measurements and calculating the size and quantity of materials required.
Selecting appropriate timber and other construction materials for each project.
Cutting, shaping, joining and smoothing timber and other materials according to measurements and specifications.
Constructing and installing wall frames, roof frames and other structural components.
Building and installing window frames, doors, door frames, staircases and other building components.
Constructing building frameworks using raw materials and pre-constructed components.
Installing flooring, roofing components, wall linings and other building materials while ensuring they are properly aligned and levelled.
Assembling and installing cabinets, shelves, furniture and other timber fixtures where required.
Installing fixtures and fittings according to plans and specifications.
Inspecting existing structures and identifying required repairs or maintenance.
Carrying out repairs, alterations and maintenance to timber structures and building components.
Replacing damaged or deteriorated timber and other materials.
Constructing and dismantling temporary structures and scaffolding where required.
Operating hand tools and power tools safely and correctly.
Ensuring measurements, cuts and installations meet required specifications.
Checking completed work to ensure quality and accuracy.
Coordinating with supervisors, tradespeople and other team members to complete projects efficiently.
Maintaining tools and equipment in good working condition.
Keeping work areas clean, organised and safe.
Following building plans, workplace procedures and safety requirements.
Complying with workplace health and safety requirements at all times.
Performing other relevant carpentry duties as reasonably required.
At least 2 years or more experience in a similar Carpenter position.
Certificate III in Carpentry or higher relevant qualification preferred.
Strong practical knowledge of carpentry and construction techniques.
Demonstrated ability to work with timber and other building materials.
Ability to accurately read plans, drawings and specifications.
Ability to take accurate measurements and perform material calculations.
Experience using hand tools, power tools and carpentry equipment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Good communication and people skills.
Ability to work effectively within a team.
Ability to work independently and take initiative when required.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Commitment to workplace health and safety.
Good physical fitness and ability to undertake manual duties.
Current driver's licence preferred.
Construction White Card preferred.
