About the role
The Role
An opportunity exists for a highly motivated and outcomes focused Logistics Manager to join a dedicated team delivering health services to Australian Defence Force (ADF) members in Northern Territory and South Australia. The successful candidate will be accountable for achieving complex logistics, governance, facilities, and asset management tasks within an integrated workforce.
The APS 6 Logistics Manager must understand and comply with relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks, as well as Defence logistics policies and procedures. They will need to exercise initiative and judgment when performing their duties and will be responsible for setting and reviewing work priorities and managing workflows for themselves and their team.
There is a considerable level of stakeholder engagement associated with this role. The APS 6 Logistics Manager will be expected to provide technical advice to relevant planning, project management and logistics related activities. They will often be required to act as the Commanding Officers representative when engaging with stakeholders in relation to logistics and estate management activities.
About our Team
Joint Health Command (JHC) is responsible for the delivery of healthcare services to over 70,000 Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel. Through the delivery of reliable, resilient and best practice health services, JHC enables a healthy, ready, and supported Force from enlistment through to transition from service.
Health care services are delivered through eight Joint Health regions across Australia. The APS6 Logistics Manager position is part of Joint Health Unit - Central Australia and is based at Headquarters, Robertson Barracks, NT. Each Joint Health Unit facility provides a range of services, which can include medical, nursing, dental, physiotherapy, mental health, rehabilitation, and in-patient care.
The JHC workforce is an integrated, multi-disciplinary team of Defence members, civilians, contractors and professional health providers. We work together to manage around one million patient health service interactions with Defence members each year.
The APS 6 Logistics Manager reports to the Commanding Officer of their Joint Health Unit with technical guidance provided via the Directorate of Health Material, Logistics and Pharmacy. The broader Logistics team has representatives nationally, providing a network of support for Logistics Officers.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with relevant experience in working in logistics management. They will possess strong technical skills and have both an ability and willingness to adapt those skills to working within an ADF Healthcare environment. Adaptability, attention to detail, and ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks across a broad range of functions including inventory management, estate and infrastructure planning, and reporting and governance is critical.
They will possess a good understanding of relevant legislative and policy frameworks, and must be able to exercise both initiative and judgment in the interpretation and application of policy in the conduct of their duties. They must have excellent communication skills and the ability to develop productive relationships across various stakeholder groups to achieve desired outcomes.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to support the delivery of safe, effective, and high quality care to ADF members. They must be capable of building team capacity through coaching, development, and feedback mechanisms.

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Baseline Vetting” level.
