Product Manager - Rugs

About the role

Reporting directly to senior management, you will be responsible for developing commercially successful rug collections and driving the overall performance of the category. This is a senior hands-on role for someone who understands the Australian rugs and homewares market and can identify the right products, at the right price, for the right customers.

Key responsibilities

• Developing and managing core, seasonal and exclusive rug collections

• Identifying new product, design, colour, material and price-point opportunities

• Sourcing products from international suppliers

• Negotiating pricing, payment terms, minimum order quantities and delivery schedules

• Managing supplier relationships, product development and sampling

• Preparing detailed product costings and recommended selling prices

• Achieving agreed sales, gross margin and inventory targets

• Reviewing sales performance and identifying best sellers, gaps and slow-moving products

• Forecasting demand and planning purchases to maintain appropriate stock levels

• Managing aged inventory and recommending promotional or clearance strategies

About you

• Proven experience as a buyer, product manager or category manager within rugs category

• A strong understanding of the Australian retail and wholesale market

• Excellent commercial judgement and the ability to identify products with strong sales potential

• Experience sourcing and developing products with overseas manufacturers

• Strong negotiation, costing and margin-management skills

• Experience managing inventory, forecasting and stock performance

• A strong eye for colour, design, texture and interior trends

• The ability to analyse sales data and translate it into commercial decisions

• Strong Excel, reporting and presentation skills

• Excellent communication and relationship-management skills
