Join one of Australia’s largest forensic and pathology service networks and be part of a world-class scientific team. This Scientific Officer role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a leading laboratory providing specialised drug analysis services to forensic and clinical stakeholders, while collaborating with highly experienced scientists and researchers at the forefront of analytical toxicology and scientific innovation.
What You'll Be Doing
To deliver a range of operational and analytical laboratory activities in accordance with established operational standards, procedures and quality requirements, while contributing to continual process improvement.
The Scientific Officer is responsible for performing and reviewing analytical work, including sample preparation, data assessment and reporting, as well as other duties relevant to the operational requirements of the laboratory. The Scientific Officer may also be required to provide expert evidence in court regarding analytical procedures, results and other aspects of work performed.

A Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science or Applied Science with a major relevant to the Unit, or an equivalent qualification relevant to analytical or forensic science to which the role appliesDemonstrated expertise in mass spectrometry, with substantial practical experience in the development, optimisation and validation of Mass Spectrometry methods for the analysis of drugs and their metabolites in biological specimens.Knowledge of chemical and/or biological hazards and precautions that exist within a laboratory environment and associated responsibilitiesAbility to work in a responsible and efficient manner, and manage competing priorities while ensuring attention to detail, precision and maintaining accountability of work completedExcellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to educate internal and external stakeholders, report writing skills and willingness to provide expert evidence in courtsDisplay initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environmentSound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety, privacy and quality improvement requirementsDemonstrated capacity to adopt and model the NSWHP RITES values of Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence and Safety
