Horticulturist/Groundsperson

The Southport School (TSS) is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding school for boys situated on the banks of the beautiful Nerang River in the heart of the Gold Coast.  The Southport School has been established for 125 years and is committed to providing excellence in leadership, learning and teaching, pastoral care and extra-curricular endeavors within a balanced, holistic Christian environment.

Currently an opportunity exists for a full time Horticulturist/Groundsperson to join the TSS Grounds team in managing the incredible 52 hectares of grounds across our two campuses – our Preparatory and Senior School. This role would ideally suit candidates who are seeking to move to a stable employment environment, and who are keen to showcase their grounds and horticulturalist/landscaping skills here across our two large campuses.  We have a strong and collegial team here at TSS who love what they do and where they do it, and in turn our community love them back for the way they make our grounds shine – they are masters of their respective fields of expertise.

We are very keen to speak with and meet candidates who:

• Ideally have a horticulturist qualification (Cert III, IV, Dip)
• Ideally have at least 3 years of landscaping and garden/grounds management experience
• Who may be interested in sports ground management, and
• Who are keen to contribute to the amazing opportunities and programs that we provide our students, their families, and our school community.

Desired qualities:

• Should enjoy working with a team and operate independently on project work across the School
• Sound mechanical aptitude and appropriate licenses are beneficial
• Landscaping and grounds work knowledge and experience
• Irrigation, pesticide and fertilization training or experience

The successful applicant should possess a strong work ethic and be able to physically carry out the inherent functions of the position.
