About the Role

As Immunisation Coordinator you will be vital to ensuring the success of Vaccination Uptake Support Program. The purpose of the Vaccination Uptake Support Program is to strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander vaccination uptake across the Northern Territory by supporting Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) to deliver culturally safe, community-led immunisation programs. This role will see you assume responsibility for the leadership and day to day management of the Vaccination Uptake Support Program across the Northern Territory.

Your Day-to-Day responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of the Vaccination Uptake Support Program across the Northern Territory, working collaboratively with AMSANT members to improve vaccination uptake and reduce the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
• Coordinate immunisation workforce development by planning, delivering and facilitating jurisdiction-wide immunisation education, training, mentoring and upskilling opportunities for ACCHO clinical staff, including developing practical resources and supporting access to training.
• Provide expert advice and quality improvement support to ACCHOs by identifying barriers to vaccination, promoting evidence-based practice including cold chain management, supporting continuous quality improvement initiatives and monitoring emerging immunisation issues.
• Develop and maintain effective partnerships with NACCHO, NT Health, AMSANT member services and other key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration, coordinate immunisation activities and advocate for culturally safe immunisation services across the Northern Territory.
• Represent AMSANT on relevant immunisation networks, committees and Communities of Practice, contributing to the development of policies, resources and initiatives.
• Monitor program performance and meet funding requirements by maintaining activity workplans, collecting and reporting program data and preparing progress reports.
• Other duties as directed by the Health Systems Manager.

Selection Criteria (qualifications and attributes)

Essential:

1. AHPRA registered clinician with significant experience in primary health care delivery with recognised immunisation experience and qualifications that allow the practitioner to immunise independently
2. Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively, including the requirements for proper negotiations and consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
3. Demonstrated ability to provide relevant information for the development of policies and procedures, including capacity for application of initiative, creativity, and sound judgment
4. Demonstrated knowledge of co-design and co-decision-making principles
5. A sound knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles and capacity to use clinical data for the purpose of quality improvement
6. Experience working with a range of stakeholders, including government and community-controlled organisations
7. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills to influence change, and experience communicating complex or sensitive issues to a wide variety of stakeholders
8. Community engagement skills and/or experience in health stakeholder engagement
9. Experience or the ability to work with committees including Expert Working Groups and Communities of Practice.

Desirable:

1. Previous experience working in Aboriginal primary health care in the NT.
2. Experience advocating for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled health sector
3. Awareness of the history and role of Aboriginal community-controlled health organisations and a knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people societies and cultures and the issues affecting the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
