About the role
We’re looking for a capable, thoughtful Support Worker. This role suits someone who takes their work seriously, respects autonomy, and understands that good support is built on trust, consistency, and real-world skill.
The client is seeking a worker who listens, collaborates, and actively reflects on their practice in order to avoid infantilising disability community members. Applicants should be ready to explain how they actually work in practice, particularly around things like trauma-informed care and neurodiversity-affirming approaches.
About the Role
You’ll be supporting the participant with daily living tasks, community access, emotional regulation, and maintaining independence and dignity in everyday life. Supports are participant-led and grounded in respect, choice, and transparency.
What We Are Looking For
We’re especially interested in people who:
-Respect autonomy and reject paternalistic approaches.
-Understand that trust is built slowly, through consistency and transparency.
-Will endeavour to make all possible attempts to share the responsibility for communication clarity per Damian Milton’s ‘Double Empathy Problem’.
-Understands the Autistic experience of PDA, AKA Pathological Demand Avoidance, preferably known as Persistent Drive for Autonomy, and how to effectively support this presentation.
-Avoid ‘rescue’ mentalities.
-Understand the importance of safeguarding and ethical practice.
-Are patient, steady, and reliable.
-Are comfortable working with complex needs and fluctuating capacity.
-Are open to screening, reference checks, and accountability.
Essential Requirements
-Experience in disability or mental health support (NDIS experience preferred).
-Current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance.
-First Aid & CPR.
-Willingness to engage in reflective practice and supervision.
-Driver’s licence.
In your application, please include:
-A brief description of your experience with complex physical or psychosocial disability.
-What trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming practice means to you, in concrete terms.
-An example of how you have supported someone’s autonomy in a challenging situation.
-OPTIONAL: If you are willing to share, whether you yourself are Neurodivergent and if so, what neurotypes you experience.
If at all possible, please record yourself answering these questions as it provides the client the opportunity to get a sense of who you are and begins the process of rapport building without the pressure of a face-to-face meeting.
What We Offer
Autistic applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
THERE WILL BE A PROBATIONARY PERIOD AND AFDTER THIS PERIOD YOU WILL BE OFFERED REGULAR SHIFTS
Pay: From $45.28 per hour
Work Location: In person
