JT Consulting Engineers (JTCE) is an established structural and civil engineering consultancy with a strong presence in Victoria and decades of experience within the building and construction industry.

We are looking for an experienced Structural Engineer with a minimum of 5 years' Australian structural design experience to join our Melbourne team.

This position would suit an engineer who is confident working with a high degree of autonomy and is looking to take greater ownership of projects. You will work directly with clients, architects, building designers and builders and be involved in projects from initial structural concept through to design, documentation and construction.

We are particularly interested in an engineer with strong practical design skills who is comfortable working across a variety of structural systems and who can also undertake AutoCAD drafting when required.

The Role

You will be responsible for the structural design and delivery of a range of residential, commercial and industrial building projects, including new homes, extensions and alterations, townhouse and multi-unit developments, apartments, warehouses and other low-rise commercial projects.

Your responsibilities will include structural analysis and design; preparation and review of structural documentation; coordination with architects, building designers, builders and other consultants; undertaking site inspections and resolving construction issues; and managing projects with limited supervision.

The ability to undertake your own AutoCAD drafting and documentation when required is highly desirable.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Minimum 5 years' structural engineering/design experience in Australia

• Strong local Victorian/Melbourne building industry experience

• Demonstrated experience designing timber, steel, reinforced concrete and masonry structures

• Strong experience in residential engineering, including single and multi-storey dwellings, alterations and additions, townhouses and multi-unit developments

• Experience with commercial/industrial projects such as warehouses and apartments would be advantageous

• Good practical knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, NCC requirements and Victorian construction practices

• Strong structural analysis and problem-solving skills

• AutoCAD drafting capability

• Experience with structural engineering software such as SpaceGASS, RAPT, SLB, WALLAP and Structural Toolkit, or similar packages

• ETABS and RAM Concept experience would be advantageous

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• The confidence to communicate directly with clients, architects, builders and other consultants

• The ability to manage your own workload and projects with limited supervision

• A practical approach to structural engineering and construction

• Professional Engineer registration in Victoria, or eligibility for registration, would be highly regarded.
