Trade Assistant

About the role

Porter Equipment Australia Pty Ltd is seeking a Trade Assistant / Yardman to join our team in Berrinba, QLD on a full-time basis. This is a hands-on role that plays a vital part in supporting our skilled tradespeople and ensuring the smooth operation of our daily projects and services. As a Trade Assistant, you will work alongside experienced tradespeople, providing essential support that helps us deliver quality workmanship and maintain our reputation for excellence in the trades and services sector.

Key responsibilities

1. Assist qualified tradespeople with a variety of tasks on job sites and in workshops

2. Prepare work areas, gather tools and materials needed for projects

3. Perform general labouring duties including loading, unloading and organising new / used and hire equipment

4. Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with health and safety standards

5. Support our hire division carrying out pre and post hire machine checks

6. Run errands as required

7. Operate basic hand tools and equipment under supervision

8. Assist with cleaning new / used and hire machines.

9. Report any hazards, damage or safety concerns to the supervising tradesperson

What we're looking for

1. Willingness to learn and develop trade skills under the guidance of experienced tradespeople

2. Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour, including lifting and carrying heavy items

3. Reliable, punctual and committed to attendance and punctuality

4. Basic understanding of health and safety practices on job sites

5. Ability to follow instructions clearly and work as part of a team and attention to detail

6. Positive attitude and strong work ethic

7. Good communication skills

8. Current driver's licence (desirable)

9. Experience in a trade or labouring role is advantageous but not essential for the right candidate
