About the role
Location: South West Sydney, NSW
Salary Package: $180,000 + Super
Role Highlights: Own the group close, consolidation, and statutory reporting for an established construction business. Second-in-charge to the Financial Controller with Board exposure, clear mandate to automate reporting.
Career-defining opportunity to step into a genuine number two role within a growing construction group. Report directly to the Financial Controller, own the numbers end to end, and lead the automation of group reporting.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Financial Controller, this Senior Finance Manager will be the operational backbone of the group finance function. On a monthly basis, you will own the group close from initiation to completion, preparing consolidated three-way financial statements, reviewing journals and maintaining full balance sheet reconciliations across all entities. On a weekly basis, you will maintain the rolling cash flow forecast and coordinate the offshore finance support team. On a daily basis, you will resolve reconciling items, direct transactional processing and support the Financial Controller on group financial matters. This role carries clear ownership of the group’s statutory compliance obligations and its relationship with external auditors, tax advisers and banking partners. You will prepare the monthly SLT report pack and drive the automation of its production, materially reducing manual preparation time. With direct exposure to Board-level reporting and a mandate to improve process, this is a strong platform for progression to Financial Controller.
Responsibilities
Candidate Profile
You are a CA or CPA qualified finance professional with 5 – 8 years’ experience, including at least 2 – 3 years in a multi-entity consolidation or senior financial reporting context. You are degree qualified in Accounting, Finance or Commerce, with strong technical knowledge of Australian accounting standards and hands-on experience across GST/BAS, payroll tax and income tax coordination. Construction industry experience is strongly preferred, along with proficiency in Jobpac or an equivalent construction ERP and advanced Excel. Experience managing or coordinating offshore or shared services teams is highly regarded. You bring technical rigour and process discipline, you hold yourself and others to the close timetable, and you identify and drive improvements without waiting to be asked.
Culture & Benefits
This established construction group has built a strong reputation and a growing project portfolio across the eastern seaboard. The finance function is scaling with the business, and this role sits at the centre of that growth with genuine autonomy and visibility.
