About the Job

Our client is a global specialty insurer with a strong and expanding presence across Australia and New Zealand. Following sustained growth, they are seeking a Financial Lines Underwriter to lead and further develop their open market Financial Lines portfolio in the ANZ region.

Working closely with the regional Head of Financial Lines, you will shape underwriting strategy across Professional Indemnity, Financial Institutions and D&O. This is a highly autonomous, market-facing seat with real influence over the direction of the portfolio, suited to a senior practitioner who wants ownership rather than a spot in a large hierarchy.

The business is well-capitalised, profitable and entrepreneurial, with a collaborative culture and hybrid working. The right candidate will have room to grow a book, build market profile and progress with the platform.

Responsibilities

• Build and develop the Financial Lines portfolio across Australia and New Zealand, with a focus on PI, FI and D&O
• Drive profitable, sustainable long-term portfolio growth against agreed targets
• Shape underwriting philosophy and strategy for the Financial Lines vertical alongside the regional head
• Underwrite an open market Financial Lines portfolio with autonomy and sound technical judgement
• Negotiate terms, pricing and policy structures on new and renewal business
• Develop and leverage broker relationships across the major domestic and global intermediaries
• Represent the business in market and collaborate with teams across Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific
• Identify and pursue cross-sell opportunities where risk appetite and profitability align

Requirements

• Significant experience underwriting Professional Indemnity and D&O business
• Established broker relationships across the Australian market and a credible market profile
• Demonstrated ability to assess, price and negotiate complex Financial Lines risks
• Strategic capability: setting and delivering ambitious but achievable growth targets
• Strong analytical, communication and negotiation skills; strong Excel capability
• Treaty reinsurance exposure and tertiary or professional accreditation advantageous
