General Manager Strategy & Growth AU

Downer is seeking a General Manager Strategy & Growth AU to play a pivotal leadership role in driving our strategic direction, business performance and growth ambitions across Australia.

As a key member of the Transport & Infrastructure (T&I) Senior Leadership Team, you will lead the development and execution of the Australian strategy, business planning framework and targeted growth agenda. Working closely with executive leaders, customers and industry stakeholders, you will identify opportunities for growth, drive strategic initiatives, support major pursuits and help position the business for long-term success.

This is a highly influential role suited to a commercially astute leader who excels in bringing together strategy, operational excellence, business development and transformation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the development and execution of the T&I strategy, translating strategic priorities into actionable business plans, performance improvement initiatives and targeted growth programs. 
• Drive strategic projects and transformation initiatives, including business optimisation, change management, investment assessments and business case development to support informed decision-making. 
• Identify and pursue growth opportunities across existing and emerging markets, clients and territories, leveraging market insights, customer engagement and strategic partnerships to expand the business. 
• Provide leadership, governance and strategic oversight for major bids, tenders and unsolicited proposals, ensuring opportunities are effectively prioritised, resourced and positioned for success. 
• Support merger, acquisition and divestment activities, including due diligence, transaction support, business integration and transition planning. 
• Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, customers and external stakeholders while facilitating strategic workshops and fostering collaboration across the business. 
• Contribute as a key member of the T&I Senior Leadership Team, championing a culture of safety, continuous improvement, accountability and high performance.

ABOUT YOU

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Business, Communications or a related discipline.
• Significant experience across the full project or service delivery lifecycle, from winning work through to operational delivery. 
• Demonstrated success developing and implementing strategy, transformation and improvement initiatives. 
• Strong understanding of the Transport & Infrastructure sector and its market dynamics. 
• Experience leading complex strategic projects and business planning processes. 
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills. 
• Proven ability to influence and operate effectively in matrix organisations. 
• Strong analytical capability with the ability to simplify and communicate complex information. 
• Outstanding verbal, written and presentation skills. 
• High levels of emotional intelligence, resilience and adaptability. 
• Workshop facilitation and strategic planning experience.
