About the role

The Sydney Youth Cancer Service (YCS) is seeking an experienced Senior Social Workers to join our specialist multidisciplinary team at Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick. The Sydney YCS provides specialist cancer care and psychosocial support to adolescents and young adults (AYAs) aged 15 - 25 years with cancer.  

Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist social work services to young adults and their support networks across inpatient and outpatient settings. You will undertake comprehensive psychosocial assessments, develop and implement care plans, and support young people to navigate the complexity of a cancer diagnosis. 

As a senior member of the team, you will play an active leadership role  within the AYA Psychosocial Multidisciplinary Team and work collaboratively with a wide range of key stakeholders including the Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick. 
 
You will also have the opportunity to co-facilitates the NSW/ACT Youth Advisory Group (YAG) in collaboration with the Service Manager. The YAG provides a platform for young people to influence service development and support the delivery of youth friendly cancer care.

Selection criteria

To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the below questions as thoroughly as possible.

1. Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Professionals (State) Award, eligibility for practicing membership of AASW and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning.
2. Extensive post graduate clinical experience in social work assessment, crisis intervention and counselling with adolescents and young adults and their support networks across inpatient and outpatient settings, with demonstrated skills relevant to coping with illness, disability and bereavement.
3. Sound knowledge of development frameworks and the impact of chronic illness, disability, treatment and hospitalisation on young people, their families and carers.
4. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
5. Demonstrated ability to provide high level clinical advice, education and support to others in providing service excellence.
6. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
7. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes.
8. Demonstrated active participation in developing, implementing and reporting on services.
