About the role
Overview of the Role
The Executive Officer is responsible for the overall leadership, management and performance of Cancer Care Western NSW. Reporting directly to the Board Chair, the Executive Officer provides strategic and operational leadership across all aspects of the organisation, including strategy implementation, governance support, financial management, stakeholder engagement, fundraising, communications, risk management and people leadership.
This role will play a critical leadership role in guiding Cancer Care Western NSW through the next phase of its development, particularly as it transitions to Western Care NSW. It provides a unique opportunity to lead a respected regional organisation as it strengthens into a new organisation set for the future.
The Executive Officer will ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the organisation while maintaining oversight of Western Care Lodge as the organisation's primary asset and service. Working closely with the Board, the Executive Officer will deliver organisational priorities and ensure CCW continues to make a meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities
As Executive Officer, you will:
Lead the delivery of the organisation’s strategic plan and guide the successful transition to Western Care NSW.
Partner closely with the Board to support strong governance, strategic decision-making and organisational performance.
Provide leadership across all aspects of the organisation, ensuring effective operations, accountability and sustainable growth.
Oversee the strategic management of Western Care Lodge and other organisational assets.
Lead financial management, budgeting and sustainability planning to ensure the organisation’s long-term viability.
Foster a positive, high-performing workplace culture through effective leadership and people management.
Build and strengthen relationships with government, healthcare, community, philanthropic and corporate stakeholders.
Drive fundraising, grant funding, donor engagement and partnership opportunities.
Champion marketing, communications and advocacy activities that enhance the organisation’s profile and impact.
Ensure compliance with governance, risk, workplace health and safety, privacy and quality requirements.
Identify and progress strategic initiatives that support the organisation’s mission and future growth.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Demonstrated executive or senior leadership experience, ideally within the not-for-profit, community, healthcare or related sectors.
Experience working with Boards and a strong understanding of governance and strategic planning.
Well-developed financial management skills, including budgeting, reporting and sustainability planning.
Proven people leadership experience with the ability to build engaged, accountable and high-performing teams.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse sectors.
Experience in fundraising, philanthropy, grant acquisition or partnership development.
Outstanding communication, influencing and relationship-building skills.
Strategic and commercial thinking, with the ability to identify opportunities and manage risk.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to deliver outcomes in a dynamic environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business systems; experience in not-for-profit or accommodation services environments will be highly regarded.
Qualifications
• Relevant tertiary qualification in management, leadership, business, governance, health, community services or a related discipline.
• Postgraduate qualifications in leadership, management or a related field are highly desirable.
• Current Driver Licence.
• Current First Aid and CPR are highly desirable (or willingness to attain).
• Ability to pass a National Police Check.
Experience
• Minimum five years' experience in a senior leadership or executive management role.
• Demonstrated experience reporting to and working closely with a Board or governing body.
• Demonstrated experience leading organisational strategy, planning and change.
• Strong experience in financial management, budgeting and organisational performance.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership development and community relations.
• Experience in fundraising, grant management or revenue development is highly desirable.
• Experience in the not-for-profit, healthcare, community services or related sectors is highly desirable.
About Cancer Care Western NSW
Cancer Care Western NSW Incorporated (CCW) is a for-purpose charity that aims to support people in regional NSW to improve healthcare by providing affordable, self-care accommodation. CCW operates Western Care Lodge (the Lodge), a comprehensive accommodation facility in Orange NSW. The Lodge provides a 22-room safe, self-care facility to ensure guests feel at home during their time at the Lodge. CCW is also a key advocacy body that seeks to advocate for better options in health treatment and support, including funding innovative cancer clinical trials at the Central West Cancer Care Centre.
