The Role

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Commis Chef to join our kitchen team. The successful candidate will support the senior chefs in daily kitchen operations, food preparation, and service delivery while maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety.

As a Commis Chef, you will be responsible for assisting with kitchen operations, preparing ingredients, supporting cooking processes, and ensuring smooth workflow during busy service periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist senior chefs with daily kitchen preparation and operations
• Prepare ingredients including washing, cutting, portioning, and food preparation tasks
• Assist in cooking, plating, and presenting dishes according to menu standards
• Ensure consistency in food quality, portion control, and presentation
• Follow recipes, preparation methods, and kitchen procedures
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations and equipment
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements
• Assist with stock rotation, storage management, and reducing food wastage
• Support kitchen operations during busy breakfast, lunch, and dinner services
• Work collaboratively with chefs and kitchen staff to maintain efficient service

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year experience in a Commis Chef or similar commercial kitchen role
• Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or Hospitality (Certificate IV preferred)
• Knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced restaurant environment
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to follow instructions and support senior kitchen staff
