Registered Nurse | Transition to Specialty Program

The Avenue Private Hospital is an advanced 152-bed private surgical and medical hospital, with a strong focus on specialised orthopaedic care.

Our Operating Theatre team provides a supportive environment where education, teamwork and professional development are highly valued. Through our Transition to Specialty Program (TSP), Registered Nurses from ICU, Emergency, surgical wards and other hospital settings can transition into Anaesthetics and PACU (Recovery) with structured education, hands-on learning and a dedicated preceptorship model.

You’ll be supported by experienced nurses, anaesthetists, educators and clinicians while developing your skills in patient assessment, monitoring, airway management, pain management and post-operative care. Our specialised theatre teams work across upper and lower limb orthopaedic procedures, creating consistency and strong collaboration between nurses, surgeons and anaesthetists.

The Avenue offers the opportunity to take your existing nursing experience into a new specialty, with the education, support and team environment to build your confidence and grow your career in perioperative nursing.

Across our Operating Theatres, we care for patients undergoing a diverse range of surgical procedures, with varying clinical needs and levels of acuity. As part of the Transition to Specialty Program, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your clinical knowledge and practical skills as an Anaesthetics & PACU (Recovery) Nurse, within a supportive and collaborative perioperative environment.

You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anaesthetists, perioperative nurses, theatre technicians and other healthcare professionals. With the support of experienced clinicians, educators and leaders, the program provides structured education, hands-on learning and opportunities to build your confidence and competence in the anaesthetics and recovery environment.

The Transition to Specialty Program is designed to support nurses as they take the next step in their nursing journey, providing a strong foundation in perioperative nursing, anaesthetics and post-operative recovery, with opportunities for ongoing professional development.
 

PROGRAM DETAILS

Start with a fully paid training program commencing on 26 October and running for up to five weeks, combining classroom learning with real clinical practice.

Week 1: Foundational theory-based training, supported by an experienced educator.

Weeks 2–5: Supernumerary, hands-on training within the operating theatres.

What You'll Need

• At least 2 years post-graduate nursing experience in a hospital setting
• Current AHPRA registration
• Availability to join a 24/7 rotating roster
• A genuine passion for delivering excellent patient care
• A commitment to show up, learn, ask questions and grow
• Working With Children Check (upon successful application)
• Able to provide or complete a National Criminal History Check (upon successful application)
