Senior Policy Adviser, Equity and Diversity

The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We’re focused on
supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with
communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and
wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research. It’s all part of the way we partner with the community to help every individual lead a healthy life.

About the role: 

The Senior Adviser, Equity and Diversity will lead delivery of government priorities that improve health equity for multicultural and LGBTIQA+ communities including:  

• Leading the delivery of priority policy and reform projects, such as the 2026 Multicultural Health Survey and review of the department's Language Services Policy and guidelines  
• Coordinating whole of department strategy and planning processes, such as developing the next iteration of the Multicultural Health Action Plan
• Providing expert policy advice across the department, to other departments and to government on equity, diversity and intersectionality approaches and emerging or complex needs of diverse communities, and in particular LGBTIQA+ communities and multicultural communities
• Representing the department with LGBTIQA+ and multicultural sector, community, department and government stakeholders.   

This position may also work flexibly across the broader unit to contribute to responses to new or changing priorities.

About you:

Can you demonstrate the following?

• Develops briefs on highly complex issues that provide options for discussion and consideration and will contribute to the development of a set of final options for decision
• Negotiates with stakeholders and peers with the object of gaining co-operation and meeting timelines for delivery of project, service or advice
• Prepares technical reports at an advanced professional level
• Build excellent stakeholder relationships and share information both within and outside the department. 
• Proactively build your own networks throughout the department to support the delivery of your work, and support others to build their networks.
• Provide guidance and build organisational capability in relation to health equity, including representing the diversity and complexity of experience across and within communities

Qualifications / Specialist Expertise

• Beneficial to have a tertiary qualification in field related to public policy, health or community services
• Beneficial to have previous experience related to multicultural and LGBTIQA+ communities in Victoria.
