Customs Broker – Join an Independent Australian Brokerage

Swift Customs is a Western Australian-owned and operated customs brokerage providing professional customs clearance and compliance services to importers, exporters and businesses across Australia.

We are looking for an experienced Licensed Customs Broker to join our team. Brokers from other states utilising the WFH option are encouraged to apply.

Rather than being one small part of a large organisation, you will have the opportunity to work closely with clients, colleagues and management across a broad range of customs and trade matters.

As a Customs Broker with Swift Customs, you will be responsible for managing customs clearances from initial instruction through to finalisation, while providing clients with practical advice on Australian customs and biosecurity requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Lodging and managing Australian import and export declarations

• Managing customs clearances across sea and airfreight

• Reviewing commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading and other supporting documentation

• Determining and reviewing tariff classifications and customs values

• Providing advice on duty, GST, valuation and other import charges

• Managing Australian Border Force and DAFF/biosecurity requirements

• Identifying potential clearance issues before they become problems

• Advising clients on customs legislation, procedures and compliance requirements

• Preparing and managing tariff concession and other customs applications where required

• Managing customs amendments, refunds, drawbacks and other post-entry requirements

• Liaising with clients, freight forwarders, shipping lines, airlines, government agencies and other stakeholders

• Monitoring clearances and ensuring shipments are processed accurately and within required timeframes

• Maintaining accurate electronic records and supporting documentation

• Keeping up to date with changes to Australian Customs, biosecurity, tariff and trade legislation

• Assisting with more complex customs and compliance enquiries as they arise

We are looking for someone who is more than simply an experienced lodger of customs entries.

You will ideally be a Customs Broker who enjoys solving problems, interpreting legislation and providing clients with sound commercial advice.

To be successful, you will have:

• A current Australian Customs Broker Licence

• Current DAFF/biosecurity accreditation

• Demonstrated experience working as a Customs Broker in Australia

• Strong knowledge of Australian Customs legislation, procedures and import requirements

• Sound understanding of tariff classification and customs valuation

• Experience handling a variety of commodities and importers

• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• The ability to deal confidently and professionally with clients

• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

• The ability to work independently and take ownership of your workload

• A genuine interest in customs, trade and compliance

• The ability to work effectively as part of a small, experienced team

Experience with ICS, Clear.AI or other customs clearance software will be highly regarded.

Experience with complex classifications, valuation issues, tariff concessions, biosecurity requirements, project cargo or other specialised customs work will also be advantageous.
