About the role
Put your clinical skills to work in a hands-on patient care role where no two days are the same.
Medical Edge Australia is looking for qualified Ambulance Attendants to join our growing Non-Emergency Patient Transport team.
This is a frontline clinical role for people who enjoy being out on the road, working directly with patients and using their training in a practical environment. You’ll work alongside another qualified NEPT crew member, assessing and caring for patients and ensuring they are transported safely, professionally and with dignity.
Why join Medical Edge Australia?
Genuine clinical exposure, assess, monitor and care for patients throughout their journey
Variety every shift, work across different patients, facilities and clinical presentations
Work as part of an experienced NEPT team, alongside other qualified healthcare professionals
Keep building your skills, with ongoing exposure to pre-hospital care and professional development
Make a real difference, supporting patients who may be vulnerable, unwell or requiring assistance to access healthcare
Opportunities to grow, as Medical Edge Australia continues to expand its operations
What you'll be doing
As an Ambulance Attendant, you'll be part of an operational NEPT crew responding to dispatched patient transport cases.
You'll undertake thorough patient assessments, monitor patients throughout transport and provide appropriate clinical care within your scope of practice. You'll also recognise deterioration or situations requiring a higher level of care and escalate appropriately.
Day to day, you'll:
Assess patients and record clinical observations
Provide ongoing care and monitoring during transport
Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families and healthcare professionals
Safely operate NEPT vehicles and medical equipment
Respond appropriately if a patient's condition changes or deteriorates
Complete accurate clinical documentation and patient records
Work closely with your crewmate and the wider operational team
Maintain the highest standards of patient safety, confidentiality and professionalism
The role requires strong clinical judgement, problem solving and the ability to remain calm and decisive when circumstances change.
Who we're looking for
You'll be someone who genuinely enjoys working with people and takes pride in delivering excellent patient care.
We're particularly interested in candidates who are:
Professional, calm and confident with patients
Strong communicators who can explain clinical information in an easy to understand way
Comfortable making decisions within their scope of practice
Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a two-person crew
Adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic environment
Committed to patient dignity, safety and confidentiality
Physically capable of undertaking the patient and equipment handling requirements of an operational role
Essential qualifications
To be considered, you'll need:
A minimum Diploma of Paramedical Science, or equivalent qualification recognised by the Department of Health
400 hours of clinically supervised practice, as required by the Department of Health
Relevant industry experience
You'll also need a sound understanding of clinical assessment, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, medical terminology and the recognition and management of a deteriorating patient.
More than just getting patients from A to B
Non-Emergency Patient Transport is about much more than transport.
For many patients, you'll be the person supporting them during an important, and sometimes difficult, part of their healthcare journey. Your ability to assess, reassure, communicate and provide safe clinical care matters.
If you're looking for a hands-on healthcare role where you can use your qualifications, work with a great operational team and continue developing your experience in pre-hospital care, we'd love to hear from you.
