About the role
Permanent Part-Time | Behaviour Boost
Behaviour Boost is a multidisciplinary education and allied health practice based in regional Queensland, supporting children, young people and families through counselling, behaviour support and education.
We believe children and young people do best when the adults around them feel supported, connected and equipped to understand them. Our work is grounded in genuine relationships, evidence-informed practice and seeing the whole person — not simply a diagnosis, behaviour or referral reason.
We are growing our therapeutic team and are looking for a Child & Youth Therapist who shares our values and wants to make a genuine difference in the lives of the families we work alongside.
About the roleYou'll provide individual counselling to children, young people and families, including NDIS participants and private clients. You'll work alongside our Director and wider team to ensure clients experience thoughtful, consistent and high-quality support.
This role would suit someone who is looking for more than simply filling a diary. We're looking for a therapist who takes pride in their work, follows through on their commitments and genuinely cares about the outcomes of the children, young people and families they support.
What you'll be doingConducting thorough intake and assessment processes
Developing clear case conceptualisations and individualised treatment plans
Providing evidence-informed individual and family counselling tailored to each client's needs, goals and circumstances
Establishing clear therapeutic goals and monitoring client progress over time
Maintaining accurate, timely and clinically appropriate case notes and reports
Reviewing and adapting treatment plans as client needs and circumstances change
Working collaboratively with our Director and other professionals involved in a client's care
Communicating respectfully and consistently with families and relevant stakeholders
Managing your caseload independently while seeking consultation when required
Building strong therapeutic relationships with children, young people and their families
Maintaining a high standard of ethical and professional practice
Contributing to a positive and supportive team culture
We're looking for a qualified therapist who is warm, grounded, reliable and able to confidently manage their own caseload. You will be someone who combines genuine care for clients with sound clinical judgement and a strong commitment to professional practice.
You will have:
A tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work or a related discipline
Current membership with a relevant professional body such as PACFA, ACA , AASW or AHPRA
Experience providing counselling to children, young people and/or families
The ability to undertake sound clinical assessment, develop a clear case conceptualisation and translate this into an appropriate treatment plan
The ability to deliver evidence-informed therapeutic interventions appropriate to the client's needs and goals
Strong clinical documentation, communication and report-writing skills
The ability to independently manage a caseload and follow through on clinical responsibilities
Experience working with disability, mental health and/or trauma
An understanding of NDIS service delivery, or the willingness to learn
A collaborative approach and willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Strong professional boundaries, reliability and follow-through
Current, or willingness to obtain, a Blue Card, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, Child Safe Training and Police Check
Most importantly, you genuinely care about children, young people and families and want to contribute to positive outcomes in their lives.
Why Behaviour Boost? We're a small, growing practice with a big heart for our community.
At Behaviour Boost, relationships matter — with our clients, their families and within our team. We want our therapists to feel supported, valued and able to do good work without feeling like they are doing it alone.
You'll have the opportunity to work alongside our Director and multidisciplinary team, while dedicated administration takes care of bookings, invoicing and client administration so you can focus on your clinical work.
We also believe that the right person can grow with us. As your caseload develops, there is the opportunity to increase your hours over time, while maintaining a sustainable part-time role that works for you.
If you're looking for meaningful work, want to be part of a team that genuinely cares about children and young people, and are ready to bring your skills, reliability and whole self to the work — we'd love to hear from you.
How to applyClick Apply Now and send us your resume and a brief cover letter telling us about your counselling experience, what draws you to working with children, young people and families, and what you believe makes a meaningful difference in therapeutic work.
Behaviour Boost is committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for the children, young people, families and professionals we work alongside.
