Clinical Nurse – Medicinal Cannabis Telehealth

About the role

This is a hands-on clinical role positioned between patients, administrative team and prescribing doctors. The two key priorities of the role are acting as the primary clinical escalation point for the administration team and reviewing upcoming appointments to ensure patients are ready for their consultations. You will review patient forms, health summaries, medication histories and supporting clinical information before appointments. You will identify missing or conflicting information, follow up where required and escalate relevant clinical concerns to the appropriate doctor. You will also support reception when patient enquiries fall outside their non-clinical scope, helping determine whether the matter requires nursing assessment, a clinical review or urgent escalation. This role does not replace the prescribing doctor or independently determine prescribing outcomes. Its purpose is to ensure patients follow the appropriate clinical pathway and doctors have the information they need to conduct safe, efficient consultations.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the first clinical escalation point for reception and administration staff.

• Review upcoming appointment lists and ensure patients are consultation-ready.

• Confirm required health summaries, medication histories and supporting information have been received.

• Identify missing, incomplete or conflicting clinical information before appointments.

• Follow up patients, GPs, specialists and pharmacies where further information is required and consent has been provided.

• Conduct nursing triage for side effects, medication concerns, changes in health status and recent hospital presentations.

• Determine whether enquiries can be managed within nursing scope, require a doctor review or need urgent escalation.

• Escalate complex, urgent and prescribing-related matters to the appropriate doctor.

• Document clinical information clearly, objectively and appropriately in the patient record.

• Provide patient education regarding medicinal cannabis, treatment processes and appointment requirements.

About you

• Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.

• Previous experience working in medicinal cannabis.

• Strong clinical assessment, triage and escalation skills.

• Excellent written documentation and verbal communication skills.

• Confidence supporting non-clinical staff with clinical enquiries.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify missing or inconsistent information.

• The ability to prioritise competing demands in a fast-paced environment.

• A warm, professional and patient-centred communication style.

• Sound professional judgement and a clear understanding of nursing scope of practice.

• The ability to work independently while remaining closely connected with a remote team.
