Senior Data Engineer

🚀 We're Hiring: Data Lead Engineer📍 Location: Melbourne💼 Experience: 8+ years in Data Engineering | 2–4 years in Leadership
🧑 💻 Employment Type: Contract /We are looking for an experienced Data Lead to take ownership of end-to-end data platform delivery and lead the design, development, governance, and optimisation of enterprise-scale data solutions across the Azure and Microsoft Fabric ecosystem.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for someone who can combine strong data engineering expertise with architecture, delivery leadership, stakeholder management, and team mentoring.
🔹 Key ResponsibilitiesLead end-to-end delivery of scalable Azure data platforms, covering design, development, implementation, and optimisation.Architect and govern data pipelines, data models, and enterprise data platforms using Azure services.Provide technical leadership to Data Engineers, including code reviews, technical guidance, and engineering best practices.Design and develop APIs, Azure Functions, and Python-based solutions aligned with business requirements.Oversee cloud infrastructure and ensure optimal performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency.Define and implement data governance, data quality, security, and compliance standards.Establish and drive CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile delivery practices across the data platform.Partner with business and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable solutions, technical roadmaps, and delivery plans.Mentor Data Engineers and build technical capability within the data engineering team.Provide solution architecture, delivery governance, and technical oversight across complex data programs.
🔹 Must-Have Skills & Experience✅ Strong hands-on expertise in SQL and Python (or similar programming languages)✅ Deep experience with Azure Data Factory (ADF)✅ Strong experience with Azure Databricks✅ Strong experience with Azure Synapse Analytics✅ Advanced knowledge of Data Modelling and Data Warehousing (DWH) concepts✅ Hands-on exposure to the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem✅ Strong understanding of cloud data architecture and enterprise-scale data solutions✅ Proven experience leading data engineering teams and complex data programs✅ Strong knowledge of data governance, data quality, security, CI/CD and DevOps
🔹 Preferred Skills⭐ Experience building enterprise APIs and Azure Function Apps⭐ Experience with framework-based development / programming frameworks⭐ Strong stakeholder management and communication skills⭐ Experience in solution architecture and delivery governance⭐ Experience working within Agile delivery environments⭐ Strong technical mentoring and team leadership capability
