The Role – Financial Accountant

Reporting to the Financial Accounting Manager, the Financial Accountant will play a key role in delivering accurate financial reporting and maintaining strong financial controls. We are looking for a detail-oriented accounting professional with a minimum of three years' experience in a similar role and a solid understanding of accounting standards, financial reporting, reconciliations, and end-to-end accounting processes.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accountant looking to further develop their skills and take on greater responsibility within an established organisation, or for a former auditor seeking to transition from audit into a financial accounting role within the construction industry.

This is a full-time role based at our Head Office in Varsity Lakes, with hours from 8:30am-5pm Monday - Thursday and 8:30am - 4pm on Fridays.

Responsibilities

• Perform account reconciliations and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger

• Prepare monthly BAS and associated reporting

• Manage Fixed Assets and assist with AASB 16 Leases

• Prepare and contribute to monthly Financial and Management Reports, including variance analysis

• Analyse financial data to identify trends, issues and opportunities

• Manage month-end and year-end financial accounting processes

• Manage intercompany recharging and reconciliations

• Support the Financial Accounting Manager with financial reporting, analysis and accounting matters

• Assist with other ad hoc financial projects, reports and analysis as required

About You

To be successful in this role you will have: 

• Degree qualification in Accounting (essential)

• CPA or CA qualification (desirable but not essential)

• Minimum three years' experience in a Financial Accountant or similar accounting or auditing role

• Strong understanding of financial accounting principles (including accruals and deferrals), accounting standards and statutory reporting requirements

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with the ability to independently develop and improve financial templates, analyse and interpret financial data, and draw meaningful conclusions and insights to support decision-making

• Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to independently assess issues, develop practical solutions and take ownership through to resolution, while consistently delivering accurate, high-quality work.

• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks and meet deadlines and KPIs

• A proactive and self-motivated approach, with the ability to take initiative, work autonomously, identify opportunities for improvement and collaborate effectively with others to achieve outcomes

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships and confidently liaise with other teams and departments, external accountants, auditors and other key stakeholders.

• Experience with accounting, financial and asset management systems

• Experience with Databuild will be highly regarded
