About the role
About the role
Support the day-to-day operations and lead the onsite mechanical effort on Defence and infrastructure projects. This role suits a mechanical engineer with genuine on-site experience; someone who interpret the drawings and specification and understands how the work comes together on the ground.
The role bridges design and construction: you interpret the client's design and specifications, then coordinate and deliver the work on site. Mechanical and protective-coatings scopes typically run together, so an understanding of both is a real advantage.
Key responsibilities
Alongside planning and coordination of works, equipment and personnel, your duties include:
• Read and interpret mechanical and structural drawings, specifications and work packs; mark up as-builts and raise RFIs.
• Provide mechanical support on site during fitting, installation, assembly, alignment and mechanical works.
• Compile and create QA/QC documentation; prepare project plans, programmes (Gantt) and scopes.
• Carry out quantity take-offs and project procurement.
• Coordinate the direct labour workforce, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Provide advice on technical and engineering issues, and liaise with the client to resolve them.
• Coordinate mechanical works alongside surface preparation and protective coatings scopes.
• Ensure compliance with HSEQ requirements (ISO 9001 / 45001 / 14001 and PCCP).
• Maintain the project sites, premises, plant and equipment.
• Facilitate regular project meetings and report to the Project Manager.
About you
• A degree or tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• Practical on-site experience: you understand how the work goes together on the ground.
• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and work packs.
• 5+ years' relevant experience (mechanical infrastructure upgrades, asset remediation, civil/infrastructure or defence).
• Sound understanding of engineering principles.
• Good communication and report-writing skills; competent with MS Office and MS Project.
• Project delivery skills: budgeting, work priorities, cost control, stakeholder and subcontractor management, documentation.
• Construction Induction (White Card) and a current driver's licence.
• Right to work in Australia; able to meet the security requirements of Defence projects.
Highly regarded
• Construction/site experience alongside your engineering experience.
• Understanding of protective coatings, surface preparation and hazardous-substance handling.
• AMPP/NACE CIP or coatings inspection certification.
• Experience with blasting & painting and/or concrete rehabilitation works.
Benefits
Permanent full-time role with a competitive salary, allowances and super.
Genuinely varied work across Defence, marine and infrastructure projects.
A supportive, safety-first team culture where your trade experience is valued.
Career development, ongoing training, and an Employee Assistance Program.
Employee referral rewards and salary-sacrifice options.
