Cafe all rounder/ barista

About the role

Monzarella Italian Restaurant is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Café All Rounder/Barista to join our team on a full-time basis in Seddon, VIC 3011. This role is central to delivering an exceptional café experience to our customers, combining coffee expertise with friendly customer service. You will be the face of our café, creating memorable interactions whilst maintaining the high standards of quality and presentation that define Monzarella Italian Restaurant.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve high-quality espresso-based coffee drinks, specialty coffees and other beverage options with consistency and attention to detail

• Operate café equipment including espresso machines, grinders, steamers and other brewing apparatus, ensuring all equipment is maintained and cleaned to the highest standards

• Take customer orders efficiently and accurately, providing recommendations and responding to customer preferences

• Prepare light food items, sandwiches and snacks in accordance with café menu requirements and food safety standards

• Maintain a clean and organised work station, including regular cleaning of equipment and adherence to health and safety protocols

• Manage the café till system, process payments accurately and handle cash transactions with responsibility

• Stock and monitor inventory levels of coffee beans, milk, food items and other supplies, reporting shortages to management

• Provide excellent customer service, creating a welcoming atmosphere and building positive relationships with regular customers

• Work collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure seamless operations during service periods

• Assist with general café duties as required, including food preparation, plating and presentation

What we're looking for

• Barista certification or recognised coffee training qualification (essential)

• Proven experience working as a barista or café all rounder in a busy hospitality environment

• Strong knowledge of espresso-based drinks and specialty coffee preparation techniques

• Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems and café till operations

• Food handling and hygiene certifications as required by Victorian health regulations

• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to work efficiently during peak periods

• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining consistent quality standards

• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights safely

• Reliable, punctual and flexible approach to shift work including early mornings and weekends

• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a positive attitude and willingness to learn

• Experience with food preparation and sandwich assembly is highly desirable
