Assistant Baker

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking and enthusiastic Assistant Baker / Bakery Assistant to join our growing bakery team in Canberra.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about baking, enjoys working with food and wants to develop practical skills in a professional bakery environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with our baker and bakery team to assist with the preparation, production, baking, finishing and packing of a range of bakery products.

Training will be provided to the right person who demonstrates a positive attitude, willingness to learn and commitment to maintaining high standards.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities may include:

• Assisting the baker with daily bakery production
• Preparing and weighing ingredients according to recipes
• Mixing and preparing dough, fillings and other bakery products
• Assisting with shaping, proving and baking products
• Preparing bread, pastries, cakes and other bakery items as required
• Operating bakery equipment safely after appropriate training
• Decorating and finishing bakery products
• Packing and labelling finished products
• Preparing products for display, delivery or customer orders
• Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic work area
• Washing and cleaning equipment, benches, trays and utensils
• Following food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures
• Checking product quality and reporting any issues to the baker or supervisor
• Assisting with stock preparation and storage
• Following production schedules and instructions
• Working efficiently during busy production periods
• Performing other general bakery duties as required

Experience & Qualifications

Previous bakery, kitchen, food production or hospitality experience is preferred but not essential.

• Hospitality or kitchen workers looking to move into baking
• Entry-level applicants with a genuine interest in learning baking
• Suitable candidates interested in developing their skills through structured workplace training or an apprenticeship pathway

Food Safety training/certification and previous bakery experience will be viewed favourably.

Physical Requirements

Bakery work can involve:

• Standing for extended periods
• Lifting and moving ingredients, trays and bakery products
• Repetitive preparation and production tasks
• Working in warm bakery environments
• Early morning starts depending on the production schedule

Applicants should be comfortable performing these duties safely.

Hours

The bakery operates according to production and customer demand. The successful applicant may be required to work weekdays, weekends and/or public holidays, depending on the agreed roster.

Specific hours and roster arrangements will be discussed with successful applicants.

Pay

Pay will be based on the applicable Australian employment requirements, including the relevant award classification, experience, skills and employment type.
