Family Violence Support Worker - After Hours
SCHADS Level 4
Permanent Part‑Time, 15.2 hours per week
Location: Darwin, NT
Why this role matters
When women and children arrive after hours, they are often taking a strong and self‑directed step toward safety and stability. This role supports that courage by offering a calm, respectful presence as people make decisions that shape their next steps. You help create a refuge environment that is warm, organised and grounded in trauma‑informed care, offering stability, dignity and hope when people need it most.
About the role
This role supports the day‑to‑day operations of the Darwin Family Violence programs during evening, overnight and weekend shifts. You will work closely with Specialist Family Violence Practitioners and the Team Leader to respond to immediate needs, assist with safety planning and support client‑led case plans. You will help coordinate support across refuge, emergency accommodation and outreach settings, maintain accurate records and contribute to a safe, organised and welcoming environment.
This permanent part‑time position is for 15.2 hours a week within the Family Violence Service. Pay is in accordance with a SCHADS Level 4 and reports to the Team Leader.
How you will make an impact
Provide trauma‑informed support by offering a calm and reassuring first point of contact for women and children
Gather information to support risk assessment, safety planning and triage
Communicate client needs to Specialist Practitioners and the leadership team
Support preventative action and crisis response in consultation with senior staff
Build trusting relationships that encourage self‑determination and participation
Assist clients to implement case plans in line with TSA case management models
Coordinate support across refuge, emergency accommodation and outreach settings
Maintain accurate records including client notes, shift documentation and incident reports
Identify and escalate risks promptly to the Team Leader
Participate in team meetings and capacity building activities
Contribute to housekeeping and organisation to support a safe and welcoming environment
Review cases and assist with outstanding tasks when shift duties are complete
What you will bring
Certificate IV in social work, welfare, community development or related field, or equivalent experience
Experience in the social services sector
Understanding of family violence frameworks, risk assessment and safety planning
Ability to work independently during after‑hours shifts while contributing to a multidisciplinary team
Strong communication skills and ability to maintain professional boundaries
Commitment to trauma‑informed and client‑centred practice
Ability to work respectfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
Valid NT Working with Children’s Check (Ochre Card)
